What are you getting your dad?

If you have one that you buy a present for.
Or what have you bought him in the past that he loved?
He’s 60, enjoys reading non fiction sport and British history books, quite active but has what he needs for his hobby’s.
I always get him a calendar and some books and a jumper (that I don’t think he ever wears as he seems to run hot, maybe I should go with T-shirts!).
Tbh i’ll probably still stick with those again but just interested to know what you get the 60 year old man in your life!

Not my dad but my 63 year old brother. Fred Perry shirt & 3 vinyl LPs. The Verve, The Stone Roses & Oasis, stop the clocks plus a record cleaning kit

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/12/2025 20:52

Mine’s in his 70s, needs nothing and he’s getting a nice jumper, a book, a key ring and some food. I often buy him art supplies or stuff for his garden.

Spending time with you, his daughter is the best gift !

ToadRage · 05/12/2025 20:56

My Dad was easy, a tie, a CD and bag of chocolate gingers. My stepdad is harder as I don't know him well, I tend to go with the two things I know he likes; cheese and whisky. In the past i have bought him cheese and biscuit hampers, homemade hampers with a selection of cheese, biscuits and diabetic chocolate. I bought him a whisky decanter that i spotted on a local antique shop and last I did really well and found a gift set of two whisky glasses, a set of whisky stones and bottle of old-fashioned mixer. Not a clue what to get this year.

A few bottles of craft beer and a Toblerone.

CarrieMoonbeams · 05/12/2025 21:07

Thinking back, I think the two presents I bought for my dad that he absolutely loved were a Paul Smith woollen scarf, and a little hipflask from Aspinal of London.

Blanketenvy · 05/12/2025 21:20

Vinyl album, jumper and a joint present of afternoon tea voucher with my mum at a nice place.

shellyleppard · 05/12/2025 21:23

I actually think he’s a bit of a prick and don’t massively enjoy spending time with him tbh!

My dh is 59. He enjoys a funny tshirt.

TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2025 22:44

@AnneLovesGilbert gardening stuff could be good although I don’t think he’s got a garden where he is at the moment.
I know he’s fond of growing stuff though.

excellent band choices @Zeborah - possibly why Spotify put my age as 63 this year 😂😂

haha @shelly the soup gifts are great!

actually I know his favourite niche beer so perhaps I’ll also get him a box of that and be done with it.

A new padlock for his shed. Quite proud of that as a gift tbh - usually it's chocolate.

TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2025 22:46

@DrUptonsGardenGnome the Sealand thing looks interesting, any chance I could send him to live on there?! 🫣😂

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend if I have?!
usually I’d agree that time is a way better present than something physical and I’d rather spend time with people than be bought something.

No worries, I used to feel the same about my dad lol . 😂

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/12/2025 23:00

Nothing he’s dead but I use to love buying for him he was so easy to buy for

Cans of Fosters
Bottle of Whiskey -Irish was his favourite but wouldn’t say no to a nice Scotch
Shirts - He was a collard shirt and tie man, not so much ties towards the end but he had a nice collection.
Nice quality wool jumpers, he worked in the cold so loved a good smart wool jumper.
Thermals
Music he loved all music. Towards the end he went back to loving his records and record player
Books he was a massive reader, again most genres he could read about anything, but loved a good western.
DVDs again his favourite westerns
Joke presents
For his 60th I got him a couple of Budgies, he loved them.

Honestly he was so easy to buy for, I actually miss shopping for him.

Apparently yes, you can visit but it’s not for the faint hearted.

He sent me a link to a jacket he wld like so that was super easy. I’ve also got him some aftershave and will get him some chocolates. Joint gift for him and mum also will be a restaurant voucher and a calendar with pics of the kids each month.
