Can anyone tell me what is good in Lidl currently. I live abroad but have discovered one a couple of hours away, so paying it a visit tomorrow.

Do NOT touch their standard panettone! I'm a fan of this comestible and have been sampling ones from the various standard supermarkets. Whilst the Aldi one is superb, the Lidl variety is hideously DRY.

Chocolate brownies in the bakery.

BrightMintTea · 03/12/2025 17:32

The bakery stuff is always good, and their fresh pastries never miss. You can sometimes get tomahawk steaks too if you’re lucky!

Lidl’s Deluxe Puglian Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500ml, is excellent and reasonably priced. It’s spicy with a kick.
My Italian friends agree.

Mmmm. Brownies you say. On the list.
not a fan of panatone, so not on the list.
Are there Christmas decks any good ?

I had the fruit one yesterday, I toasted it and had it with butter, it was delicious.

Another one for the brownies. Also the mince pies are good and the plain Greek yoghurt.

I didn’t notice decorations but thought there were some cute gifts. I bought my DH three mini vodkas and may have accidentally bought myself three mini different flavour baileys.

The taste is OK but the real test is in eating it without toasting or buttering. VERY dry indeed.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/12/2025 18:25

I love a demi baguette with lashings of butter and some ham in 🥰

Enrichetta · 03/12/2025 18:31

Lebkuchen
Weihnachsstollen
and lots of other German Christmas treats

Smoked salmon
Italian salami and Parma ham

Some good everyday wines at reasonable prices
Their champagne isn’t bad either

Full fat real Greek yoghurt - any time of year….. it’s the best

Spekulatius biscuits. We need shares we buy so many.

I'm in the Netherlands and was so excited to discover mince pies for the first time ever.
Don't, just don't. They are terrible. Pastry, a smear of mincemeat, then lots of crumble topping. The salted caramel ones are even worse.
The stollen however is excellent!
I also like the tabouleh, the Cremant de Bourgogne, and the selection box of cheese straws.
The perfume dupes are very good, as is their argan oil face cream.

BaronessBomburst · 03/12/2025 18:47

Which country are you in, if you don't mind saying? The products do vary a bit.

Turnitoffnonagain · 03/12/2025 18:51

Stollen, second the Greek style yogurt and I quite like their meusli too.

Darnley · 03/12/2025 18:56

Hi. I’m in north Cyprus, and Lidl is in the south.

There was a comparison test of different supermarkets' croissants in one of the papers and Lidl croissants came out as the best.

BaronessBomburst · 03/12/2025 21:17

They've got cheddar! (Deluxe range)
And Stilton! Both cheaper than here.
I like the potato gratins (freezer section).

The Favorina marzipan chocolate rounds (cherry) are lovely. And they've got mini stollen bites too. Lots of local things I've not seen before though.

However, if it's anything like my local Lidl the folders often don't match up with what is actually in the shop. Things appear randomly, sometimes a couple of weeks later.
