Gift ideas for parents

I’ve looked through Christmas topic and couldn’t find a thread so apologies if one exists. I’m usually full of ideas for gifts, but this year I’m really struggling for my parents. I’d really appreciate if people could share what they’ve bought, and hopefully I’ll be inspired! Mum and dad are both in early/mid seventy’s, fit and healthy. Neither really have hobbies outside the home and aren’t theatre types or travellers. What will your parents be opening on Christmas Day???

Mum is getting a gilet and a jigsaw and some smellies, dad is getting a new walking stick and a sweater and a couple of books, MIL is getting a heated blanket and biscuits. FIL is getting a voucher for dinner out on a place near him. Hopefully they all like them!!

Im get the my mother, who is in her eighties, crocs. She likes popping in and out of her garden so I think she will think they are quite practical.

These are some things I've bought over the years for my in-laws, step in-laws, parents etc who are also in their 70's/early 80's but with various degrees of mobility and health:

-Gift voucher to a restaurant they've never been
-Theatre tickets
-Bird bath
-Bird feeder/seed/fat balls etc
-Gold leaf gardening gloves, wolf-garten brand secateurs and outdoor, garden clock
-Night away to a spa hotel, in a canal boat or ticket to an activity they'd never normally do
-Cashmere/mohair scarf
-Family portrait (or voucher to get it done with you all) then have it framed etc

My parents don’t want ‘stuff, so in the past i’ve bought restaurant voucher, gourmet meal box ,national trust membership, hotel voucher.

This year my mam is getting:

Cardigan
Night cream
She walks a lot so a new water bottle, thermal leggings and thick socks for her wellies
Make-up
New make-up brushes
Pj's

Dad:
Slippers
Apple smart watch (expensive so obviously less gifts than my mam- I try to spend the same amount on them)

If your parents are home most of the time:

Candles/diffusers
Throws/blankets
Framed family photo
Cooking gifts if they cook
Gardening gifts if they garden
Subscription options are endless- books, food, drink

Some lovely ideas here thanks, although a lot of them I have bought in the past, I think that’s why I’m struggling this year! The gourmet meal box is interesting, not something I’ve thought of before although I’ve done a fancy hamper previously.

I don’t think you need to worry about repeating gifts if it is something that went down well previously. A hamper of goodies that are ‘fancier’ than they would buy for themselves is a lovely, useful present. TKMaxx/homesense have some lovely food stuffs, as do garden centres although more expensive there.

Mine are getting an afternoon tea voucher. They love that kind of thing.

ARAN Sense of Scotland After the Rain Diffuser. Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser with sachets. Belgian chocolate biscuits.

Hellsbells35 · 15/12/2025 22:36

I’ve just bought a memory gift book for my mum from Storybox.life. They receive a weekly email and after they answer all the questions they receive a beautifully bound full colour hardback book of their life with pictures. Something really special for the family to share.

I had a 20% off code too but I think it might be site wide.

Digital wifi photo frame so I can beam pictures of the kids to it.
