Just wondered if by any chance there us a J&R thread going this year?

Am a mumsnetter from the old days (back after a few Xmases away) and used to love the hilarious J&R threads. Just wondered if anyone still swaps details and posts cards.

Aww I loved Janet and Roy! Participated quite a few times and SIL never worked out who those people were who were planning on popping in to see them in the new year!! 😂

I've just written my 2025 update from Janet and Roy!
As I scheduled the email (Janet has her own email address!) I thought about coming here to see if anyone else is still writing them!

I wrote one to my colleague in 2023 and totally forgot I'd sent it, until there was a very puzzled conversation in the office as she passed around a print out of 'Janet's email' asking if anyone in the team knew who Janet was (especially panicked as Janet mentioned they'd be in the area in the first week of January so they'd pop in for a catch up!)
It was well in to early 2024 before I was found out...
We've had a few new team members over the last year, so I thought they might like to know about life in Janet's world... 😏

My friend and I did a version of it with her mother, kept it going with Easter cards and postcards during the summer as well as birthday cards. She was totally baffled until she decided it must be a stalker and suggested calling the police. At that point we admitted it...fortunately she saw the funny side! 😁

Sorry, I love Christmas spirit and positive posts but I have to agree with PP on this one. Sommeone's Christmas might be ruined by them worrying about an unknown person turning up on their doorstep at sometime!

Who honestly has the time for real round robins never mind ‘wacky’ pretend ones?

Actually, this bit I can agree with. It would be really awful to worry about this!

Its at times like this you see how much MN has changed over the years. The J&R threads were top of active threads and ran and ran and ran back in the day.

People were mostly careful to choose people they thought unlikely to get distressed and the feedback on responses mostly seemed positive too.

Most people partook in helping to create J&R "letters" on the thread with silly anecdotes that never got sent but made a hilarious read.

I might take a look at classics or see if I can dig up some of the old ones for a lighthearted read!

No offence intended by my response - ive recently found myself back on MN after a few years away so I am referring to a good few years ago now. Times change.

God I loved the Janet and Roy threads. I actually miss Round Robins, they were so fun and a nice way to catch up with people.

I miss the old days, people aren’t as funny anymore. Also, they’re mean without any cleverness at all.
