DD wants a dartboard

DD (15) wants a dartboard and I am a bit worried about my walls! Does it ruin them? Should I get one with a surround. It would have to go above her bed which does not seem ideal.... Any recommendations welcomed! Thanks.

You can get magnetic or electronic dart boards now which maybe save your walls

Lonelycrab · 26/11/2025 20:48

Get a real one I say

Mount it on a piece of ply a bit bigger than the board, then hang it all from a couple of screws into the wall.

My dd wanted one a couple of years ago. It’s on the garage wall ….

Why was my mental image of “above her bed” immediately of it on the ceiling!? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I wouldn't have one in a bedroom. We have one in a covered passage at the back of the house.

They are rubbish though.

get one with a surround I would say. Do you have a garage/summerhouse/shed you can put it in (at least until he has a half decent shot) 😂

Could you put up cork wall tiles behind the board? Wilkos do them.

Needspaceforlego · 26/11/2025 21:22

Def get a surround or a bit of ply for it.

Twinkletwinkly · 26/11/2025 21:27

We had one when my kids were teens and we used it a lot. I tucked a large flattened cardboard box behind it to protect the wall in the early days till our aim improved . It was in a carpeted bedroom and a stray dart often bounced off the board and stuck in the floor. So if you have a nice wooden floor you might want to think of a rug.

My son has the Luke the nuke branded magnetic dartboard. It’s really good and no wall damage.

Pinkladyapplepie · 26/11/2025 21:34

Please get one, as a maths teacher the renewed interest in darts has been amazing for my students mental arithmetic 😂

We are in a flat so no outdoor space except for a balcony which would not be a good idea!

We've got one on a stand with a surround so you can move it wherever you want.
I'm pretty shit at darts but I've never hit anything other than the board or surround.

Mine was set up on my garden door, with a shitload of cardboard around it to protect the door "just in case".

I feel it's important to mention that it should be measured out correctly, with a marker for the oche. I used one of those mini ELC chalkboards for any scores/notes etc. when playing. Glhf.
