Help! Present request from Santa

Hello, I have had a tricky present request from Santa and I am hoping others might have better ideas than me! DC6 has requested a kit to make a model of our house, and said it can not be made of LEGO. I have found on the internet kits to make model houses but none of them really look like ours which is a 2000s built red brick detached. Knowing DC it needs to be right - so either an exact model of our house (tricky!) or a set he can adapt himself to make it look like our house. If anyone has any suggestions I’d be soooo grateful!

Blown up photo of the front of your house on canvas to attach to a model?

Would clay and a set of paints work?

TwoMintsLoose · 26/11/2025 11:56

How about taking a picture of your house and a personalised jigsaw? And then a model of a house, as close as you can get it. I think between the two that’ll be close enough!

You could probably get a kit 3D printed too, but it would be expensive I imagine.

Have you looked at Teifoc bricks? They’re small toy bricks made of clay but look like standard red bricks, you make mortar to stick them together and can design and rebuild how you want. I’m not explaining that very well but look at the website - this is from overseas but we’ve bought teifoc on Amazon before

Thank you so much these are all really great ideas. I did see that house which unfortunately isn’t close enough to ours I don’t think but would otherwise be perfect! The jigsaw puzzle idea is excellent, I’m good to see what I can find on Etsy

There are quite a few people on etsy that do 3d printing of houses for around £50. There are also cheaper ones where it is just one block colour. You could get a white one for him to paint how he likes. You could probably also ask them to do a reverse print of the house and make a mould for clay or plaster. That is of course the messiest option!

Photobox do puzzles too which are probably cheaper than on Etsy. Presently even cheaper due to black Friday. I think the smallest is 49 pieces, and they do bigger too if you want more pieces

Do you have a model train shop nearby? Bit random! But those sorts of places often also stock other modelling type stuff and if they don’t have the right thing, they may well be able to point you in the right direction.

Wow these are all some great ideas! Thank you so much I will definitely be able to get something worthy of Santa now. The 3d models on Etsy are good and some come in separate parts so I think he’d like putting it together and decorating it. The puzzles also look like good options. And model train shops are a great idea. Phew, panic over!

The ravensburg personalised puzzles come out fantastic.
