Meta Quest 3S question

Wanting to surprise my son with a VR set for Christmas as he would never expect such a big present.
I have no idea about VR sets. For anyone that has the Meta Quest 3S 128GB - is it a stand alone piece of equipment or do I need to buy anything else to go with it?

We bought DS this for his birthday in October. It is a stand alone console with the comptroller's etc. The battery life isn’t great and the headset can be a bit uncomfortable, so we bought a separate upgraded strap with an additional battery pack (about £50 on Amazon).

The games are a variety of prices (between free and about £30) but it might be a good idea to sign up to Meta Horizon monthly (about £7.99).

It is cool but my DS still plays his X box more regularly. It’s a bit of a novelty thing for him really.
