Morrisons narwhal help!

BarnacleBeasley · 18/11/2025 10:06

DS claims that when we were shopping in Morrison's the other day he saw a plush narwhal which is 'like DS2's narwhal but more prettier because it had a pink and purple horn', and he would really like to get this for Christmas. That is, he really needs it right now because he wants to cuddle it, but has been made aware that that's not happening, so he has asked me to write it on his Christmas list.

However, I popped into Morrison's earlier and they do have some plush toys but no narwhals. Has anyone seen a narwhal in there recently? They had a selection of TY Beanie Boos and a selection of small squishmallows, so I'm thinking it might be either of those brands and I can source it elsewhere. If anyone can confirm which it is, I'd be really grateful!

Obviously he might have just made it up in his imagination, like the time he wanted a plush queen termite with white wings, which she would only have specifically when mating.

Oh I saw 1 just randomly on top of boxes at an aisle end on Friday, I know that doesn't help much but they are a thing. Have you tried online or maybe morrisons through Amazon.

Coffeeishot · 18/11/2025 14:40

Although I did think it was a dinosaur 😂

BarnacleBeasley · 18/11/2025 14:54

That definitely is helpful @Coffeeishot - thanks! It at least rules out the 'DS1 made it up in his head' theory. I did try Morrison's online but they didn't have all the plush toys I saw instore on there, so I couldn't work out which brand it was. Did the dino-narwhal you saw look more squishmallowy, i.e. shaped like a blob, pastel-coloured, weirdly smooth? Or more beanie, i.e. horrifying large starey eyes, lurid colours, fluffier?

It was more plush than a squishmallow,

Coffeeishot · 18/11/2025 15:01

I wonder if Morrisons are trying to create a buzz around it 😀 it isn't on the website.

It was more plush than a squishmallow,

Amazing. In that case, I think (if it indeed exists) it's probably a beanie boo one. They had a box with a selection of different hidous animals in it when I looked this morning, including a dinosaur but sadly no sea creatures. I'll try and find one online, but as insurance, I think I'll work on convincing him that Santa can make even better narwhals which will be 'more prettier' due to being rainbow and sequinned or something.

@BarnacleBeasley I work at Morrisons so will keep my eyes open for you. Not something I have seen yet but stock is changing a lot at the moment.

Needmorelego · 18/11/2025 15:35

My nearest Morrisons uses the area of their closed cafe as a kind of "special buy" section a bit like the Aldi/Lidl ones.
It's not very obvious it's there and actually open to the public (it was stock overflow storage for a while).
@BarnacleBeasley has your Morrisons got a similar area?
Narwhal might be hiding in there.

Coffeeishot · 18/11/2025 15:38

Good luck hopefully you find it for him.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 18/11/2025 15:38

Also did you take DS2 to any other supermarket that he might have got muddled up with?

BarnacleBeasley · 18/11/2025 16:37

@Needmorelego sadly not, my Morrisons is really shit and it just has a chaotic toy section at one end of a normal aisle. Also @Justhereforthechristmasthreads I pretty much never take DS to supermarkets as we normally get Sainsburys deliveries so his little mind was blown at the amazing range of stock: 'LOOK Mama, they sell PARTY RINGS' and I was going 'oh wow, so that's where people buy them from, who knew', and then he's saying 'they've got POM BEARS!!!' To be honest I'm lucky I escaped with just a hard-to-realise narwhal demand and an iced gingerbread biscuit.

Thank you everyone for your help! I think I have had a narwhal breakthrough. I floated the idea to my DS that Santa might be able to make all sorts of narwhals, including potentially rainbow ones. DS was initially resistant and said he really wanted the one he chose, which was (he claimed) purple and white, and not a squishmallow, and not fluffy, but soft. However, later on I showed him some pictures from the internet of the amazing narwhals Santa can make in his workshop, and he was gradually seduced by the rainbow sequins and sparkly horns. So he agreed that I could write 'teddy narwhal' on his Christmas list instead of Morrison's narwhal. Phew!

@BarnacleBeasley

I've searched every plausible part of my store today for you but no luck yet.

However Hamleys have this reduced

Narwhal

BarnacleBeasley · 19/11/2025 13:48

Thank you so much @Justhereforthechristmasthreads! That is also an excellent value and reasonably tasteful narwhal n Hamleys. I'm afraid DS's tastes run more in this kind of direction though. I might have to get him the rainbow one.

@BarnacleBeasley he has good taste 😍

fudgesmummy · 19/11/2025 13:57

Please tell me I’m not the only one who, up to a couple of years ago, thought a Narwhal was a mythical creature like a unicorn? 😁

Oh you are not alone.
Apparently a LOT of people thought the same. Including me.
I have suspicions though.... have you ever actually seen one in the wild 😂

NY152 · 19/11/2025 15:00

The Morrisons near me also has Hug-a-lumps in at the mo, it could’ve been one of the those.

BarnacleBeasley · 19/11/2025 15:35

Oh god. WTF is a Hug-a-lump? Whatever it is, I suspect DS does not need to find out about them. I knew there was a reason I don't take him to the shops normally.

Apparently up until the 18th century, people thought narwhal tusks actually were unicorn horns, so they were a major factor in why unicorns were thought to exist at all. DS incidentally is outraged that unicorns don't exist.

OP posts:
Needmorelego · 19/11/2025 16:03

@BarnacleBeasley I like to think that unicorns do exist.... they are just very very shy 🦄

Speckson · 19/11/2025 16:08

I knew someone once whose parents had a narwhal tusk propped in a corner in their hallway. It was an amazing looking thing.

Pandapoop88 · 19/11/2025 19:15

This suggestion very much depends on how nice the security guard at your local store is but have you thought about going to store and seeing if they can check toy aisle camera from the time you and your son were there? They might be able to pinpoint what type of toy narwhal it was. Also see if you could speak to colleague who stocks that area and/or head office as they may be able to help. Santa comes in all sorts of uniforms lol
