Anyone Else Obsessed With Snowglobes?

I have always loved snowglobes but never knew until recently just how many there are to choose from online. Even found some of the vintage plastic dome shaped shakers that I had as a child. And don’t get me started on Etsy! There are some absolutely stunning ones. I even found a Tiffany rotating carousel but it looks like blue plastic at the bottom which is disappointing. Especially as it’s just over £130! I’ve more or less decided to buy a musical pink, blue & gold village scene with a miniature train & carol singers. Paying on Klarna. Also a cute rabbit snowglobe.

Are these the things you shake like an enclosed model and it looks like it is snowing in there?
We were warned years ago to avoid them as they are made. In countries where there is not a ready supply of clean water.
They often break and release fluid filled with all kinds of pathogens.

CalzoneOnLegs · 19/11/2025 19:41

No I am not obsessed with tacky plastic landfill toxic crap in answer to your question

ETA So many to choose from aka so many ways to part you from your hard earned cash for utter useless planet destroying rubbish

BoredZelda · 19/11/2025 19:47

My daughter has over 100 snow globes. We get them everywhere.

crappycrapcrap · 19/11/2025 19:48

Love them - favourite holiday souvenir

imisscashmere · 19/11/2025 19:55

I really want a lovely snow globe! Why isn’t anybody posting links 😂

StarCourt · 19/11/2025 20:48

i’ve been looking for a really lovely Robin snow globe for a few years now but have never found anything i really love.

Zov · 19/11/2025 20:49

No. And I don't know anyone who is obsessed with snowglobes!

You do you though @MarmaladeSandwich7 ! 😎

Piemam · 19/11/2025 21:23

I love them! Always have. I now have a couple from my parents' modest collection as they were getting rid, and I buy new ones when I visit somewhere new.

@ShowOfHands I think this is the most romantic thing I've ever read on here! At the very least, it is pure #relationshipgoals and I say that as a pragmatic, not very romantic woman!

There's something so magical about snowglobes. Check out the Christmas Imaginarium website. Beautiful, huge snowglobes that I am tempted by ever year, if I had the budget.

I’ve just bought the book snow globe from here and it’s lovely but I am disappointed it doesn’t light up . Also there is no mention in the description but it’s actually musical .

I dint think that's a major issue unless you lick up the spilled water Grin

Another one here who loves a snow globe. I've got a lovely glass one with a reindeer.

My son has a great snow globe collection. I try to get him one for every birthday and Christmas. He also has a Halloween one I got from TKMax, and Easter themed one, and he buys one when ever we go away. I got him a really cool one from etsy, of a robot one year.

I am the most pragmatic woman in the world but DH is a good egg and my toxic, fire-risk, plastic landfill tat snow globes are an enduring and joy-bringing reminder of 26 happy years.

DH has bought a Christmas snow globe for me every year of our marriage.

I adore them and display them in my snug for all of December. They sit up on the top of built in shelves by the fire and have warm twinkly fairy lights wrapped around them.

I LOOOOOVE this so much.

Snowglobes bring me joy.

Taytocrisps · 21/11/2025 20:12

@ShowOfHands I have that very same mantelpiece decoration/tealight holder. It was a present from Ex's granny and his maiden aunt (they lived together). I was very fond of them both and they have both passed away. When Christmas is over, I wrap it up carefully in a piece of fabric (a Christmas stocking or something like that). I always think of them both when I unwrap it and put it on a shelf.

As for snowglobes, I was fascinated by them as a child. People would bring them back as presents from holidays. They weren't Christmassy ones though. I always shook them and watched the snow falling inside them. Funnily enough, I don't think I have any Christmas snowglobes. Maybe just a small one Santa brought DD when she was little.

This thread is making me think of the excellent episode of Channel 4 programme travel man when Chris O’Dowd and Richard Ayoade go to the snow globe museum in Vienna. I think it’s where they were invented. If you need a giggle, watch it 😆

There's a snow globe museum? Hmmmmm....... Adds Vienna to bucket list.

PInkyStarfish · 21/11/2025 20:20

Corbin Bernsen the actor has over 8,000 snow globes and is an avid collector.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 21/11/2025 21:12

My DS godfather has hundreds of Disney Snow globes displayed along one wall of his living room. It's an incredible collection. They are fascinating to look at.

Frenchcremefraiche · 22/11/2025 11:47

Dont buy something unnecessary on Klarna.

We get my daughter a snowglobe every Christmas. I try to avoid Christmas themed ones. She has some lovely, stylish ones (a beautiful hand painted carousel horse) and some cheap tat (a wolf on a mountain). Guess which she prefers! 🤣 She has a light up snowglobe that is basically glitter and it makes the room feel like it's underwater.

This year's is a tat one - a day of the dead skull.

TK Maxx have lots at this time if the year.

I saw that without looking at it properly and that that was your fireplace and was amazed at the size of the ball!

BeaLola · 22/11/2025 15:56

Love a snow globe

I have mostly Christmas ones - a couple are musical as well - loves them
