Seen as I’ve been gently persuaded to step in to Christmas. What’s everyone’s top 5 Christmas songs? Just a bit of lighthearted fun…

  1. I believe in Father Christmas - Greg lake
  2. fairy tale of New York - the pogues ft Kirsty McCall
  3. last Christmas - wham
  4. do they know it’s Christmas - band aid ( original, the others just don’t hit the same)
  5. a spaceman came travelling - Chris de burgh

HM - wonderful Christmas time - Paul McCartney, it just gives me the biggest kick of nostalgia. Reminds me of spending my childhood growing up up in a pub.

Last Christmas - Wham
Rocking Around The Christmas Tree - Mel & Kim
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Luther Vandross
White Christmas - Michael Boublé and Shania Twain
Meli Kilikimaka - Bing Crosby

There’s so many good ones! I rushed my list, should have given it proper consideration!

You’re all missing out:

  1. Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer - Reel Big Fish
  2. Dominic The Donkey - Lou Monte
  3. All I Want For Christmas Is You - My Chemical Romance
  4. Skank For Christmas - Reel Big Fish
  5. Whatever U Celebrate - Reel Big Fish (other ska bands are available)

Go on, give them a go. They’re hilarious.

We love a stupid Christmas song in this house - Santa's Got a Choo Choo Train by Blake Shelton fits in with your list very well 😂😍

I listen to radio 2 every Christmas morning whilst I’m prepping the veg, so even songs like Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah and Puff The Magic Dragon are Christmas songs to me as I only ever hear them on the big day!

Rexinasaurus · 15/11/2025 22:08

Fairytale of NY - Pogues

Do they know it’s Christmas - Band Aid

Stay Another Day - East 17

All I want for Christmas is you - MC

I can't pick 5! I love them all. 😳

Silent Night - Sinead O'Connor

Christmas in Hollis - Run DMC

Merry Christmas Everyone- Shakin Stevens

Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen

Step into Christmas - Elton

Also Slade Merry Christmas Everybody, Elvis' Blue Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Fairytale of NY.

See? Too many.

And I always get a bit 🥹 when I hear children sing Away in a Manger and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 16/11/2025 00:43

I'm surprised at Band Aid being so popular. I love any and all Christmas songs except that. Can't listen to it at all. I skip it every time. It must just be me!

HonoriaBulstrode · 16/11/2025 00:46

In no particular order -
FTONY
Slade
Greg Lake
Once in Royal David's City by a proper choir. I've heard it sung in a cathedral, and the opening solo boy's voice sends chills down the spine
O Come All Ye Faithful with the descant on 'sing choirs of angels'

Plus
Mel and Kim
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Hark the Herald Angels

But never, ever Last Christmas! Can't stand it!

lisa12000 · 16/11/2025 01:38

My favourites are

wizzard - wish it could be Christmas every day
The darkness - Christmas time (don’t let the bells end)
Elton John and ed Sheeran - merry Christmas
Carol of the bells - any choir (we went to a midnight concert in Tromso and they sang this and it was the best version I’ve heard)
Johnny Mathis - when a child is born

also - Mary did you know (the pentatonix version) is also amazing!

bluesunnyskies · 16/11/2025 02:01

The First Noel
Mary’s Boy Child
O Holy Night
Away in a Manger
O Little Town of Bethlehem/ God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (can’t decide!)

Like a previous poster, I enjoy the traditional carols as my top 5 but enjoy the modern ones too. I have been playing them for weeks now.
