Need help being Santa!

Youngster's school is doing a Christmas "buy a present" for a child who (assuming) might not get much at Christmas.
We got a choice of a gift off the tree, youngster chose it, and I have a 6 year old who enjoys art and crafts.

We have two teenagers, neither of which have ever been that art and crafty.

So anything anyone has bought that has been a hit! I am looking for art and craft fun as it is Christmas but if it has added "educational" value then great.

But would prefer the enjoyment to come first.

I have seen a marbling set, would that be fun?

They’ll have set a budget?

My DCs have always loved those “make your own sets”…..

Over the years we’ve had make your own piggy bank, unicorn soap, key rings etc. Now they are a little older, we’ve moved onto more challenging ones like make your own crochet animal, robot, crystals etc
They are great fun!

Have you got a Works book shop? They're usually a good source of craft kits and supplies. or Argos has got a good range Kids Craft Kits | Argos

I was a crafty child, and am now a crafty adult! One of my most memorable gifts at around that age was an "art set" in sort of a plastic portfolio. It had lots of different coloured pens in it - a delight!

This would have been even better paired with drawing paper - even printer paper. We never had "good paper" just for drawing at home.

No budget set but thinking around £20 ish but happy to spend a bit more if it's worth it.

We do have The Works and can also look at Argos.

I also have no gender, just a name, Billy, which could be boy or girl. So needs to be universal.

This is the dilemma.

What is the general consensus on Spirograph? Yay or Nay?
If I got a decent sketch book and some additional coloured pens?

Looks like it has lots of life and I'll get an A4 decent quality paper spiral sketch pad.

I would go make your own something keyring, piggy bank, photo frame that sort of thing and then a nice colouring set with paper/book. You might even be about to get some stick on things but remember glue. Whatever you get make sure it's all included.

Could you buy a plastic box and fill it with paints, coloured paper, wiggly eyes etc from the works, you will get loads for £20. I know that would go down well with my 5yr old (yr1)

I think this is too grown up for a 6yr old with oil pastels etc. Stick to pens and crayons and glitter glue etc!

This is heaven in a box if you're a crafty 6yr old IMO!!
