3D printer for 12 year old?

Thinking about getting my creative 12 year old an elegoo 3D printer as a present.

However I’m not sure how they actually work? Are they safe for a 12 year old to use? He won’t be able to accidentally laser his finger off for example? 🙈

Any thoughts from anyone with experience would be helpful.

Our 11yo has one and absolutely loves it. He has a kit as you often need to sand/cut and glue some of the printings after and it's been a good way to get him to start using tools and learn about safety. The actual printer is fine, although it gets hot so you need it in a well ventilated area, as long as he's not likely to stick his hand in during a print it's safe.
