Has anyone got a lovely recipe for red cabbage. I presume I can cook and pop in freezer?

I do Delias every year, just made a pot last Sunday. I then pop cold portions into freezer bags, squish them semi flat with a rolling pin and freeze to use over the coming months. One head of red cabbage goes a long way. Braised Red Cabbage with Apples recipe | Delia Smith share.google/FWQugThJMmOU2Jcrs braised red cabbage

I've always done the Nigella recipe with pomegranate juice.

I also do the Delia recipe but on the day. I pop a couple of dollops of Delia’s cranberry compote into the cabbage before serving.

Meant to say, I don’t slow cook the cabbage. I like a bit of bite in it and find it’s great cooked before the meal.

I do delias recipie in the slow cooker, but it isnt quite as nice as when you just do it on the hob and its not somewhat makes a lovely smell whilst cooking (well it does but with an underlying farty can age smell!). This year I will probably do a pot again or perhaps be more careful not to overdo it.

I prefer to cook mine in the oven. It does freeze beautifully though, so I do it in advance. I use Delia's recipe.

Braised red cabbage recipes freeze really well and popped in the microwave on the day, tastes amazing! Best veg for prepping ahead and ready in seconds when you want to serve

Thanks I will do it on the stove. Impressed with those that do it on the day.

The Delia recipe I posted was for the regular oven. I make ahead as I don't want the oven taken up on the day at very low temp for two to three hours. 😅

The time is needed for gently braising though, then the apple just seems to melt in the dish, and to me personally the whole thing tastes better the next day after resting.

I use Delia’s recipe. Freezes really well.

I do mine in the slow cooker, I find it easier than on the stove. My recipe is from my Nan:

Red cabbage, finely chopped

Cooking apple, chopped
Onion, sliced
3 tsbp granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
3-4 tbsp White vinegar

I layer it all into the slow cooker with the seasoning and vinegar, on high for 2 ish hours. I stir occasionally. I freeze into portions, I find it’s nicer after it’s been frozen!

I don’t have a recipe but cook mine in cider with mixed spice! Finish with butter at the end.
