Ds has passed his driving test and hoping to get a car soon.
What could I get for a few car related gifts?

If he’s saving up for the car, money towards it or the insurance? If it’s a second hand he might need a few bits replacing - wiper blades, mats etc. Would wait to see what model before getting usb charger / phone holder etc

Pass plus - it’ll knock money off insurance
Credit / vouchers for the car wash
A cleaning ‘hamper’ - bucket, cleaning stuff etc
Car emergency kit - jump cables, patch kit, first aid etc

An ice scraper

A tyre inflater that lives in the boot? Dh got me one to live in the car ‘just in case’ because I can never get the ones at the garage to work 😭

A dash cam - front and back.

^ love this; I'd also go for useful items over furry dice etc Grin
I'd add an ice scraper (we have a small one, about 10cm square, which has a scraper edge and a squeegee edge for wing mirrors) & a wind-up torch.

My most recent car-related things are a boot box to keep everything in, including a tyre inflator that runs off the cigar lighter.

Second the pass plus from a safety point of view as well as insurance.
A road atlas - and teach him to use it. I’ve been in a situation with a satnav problem and no phone signal. Luckily I learnt to drive before these things were needed and always carry a road map with me.
A car seat tidy.
A water bottle or travel mug that fits safely in the pocket of his car.
Coin purse with a variety of coins for parking.

A dash cam - front and back.

This is a great idea! I dont have one myself, can you wire them in yourself or does a garage need to do it?

I think I'll get one for myself as well!

A pay-and-display ticket clip, it adheres to the windscreen and you just slide the ticket in, they’re only a couple of quid but so useful.

sbplanet · 29/10/2025 09:03

A tin of travel sweets. :)

A dash cam - front and back.

And preferably hard wired so that they don’t forget to plug it in for when it is really needed. We paid for Halfords to do ours.

Scented car hanging things- both ds loved these. Stuff for winter so deicer, scaper etc. jump leads, bottle of car oil.
