Dunelm gift

Nocheezesforusmeeses · 26/10/2025 09:09

I have picked a tag from my local Dunelm tree for a lady in her 80’s who would like some smellies.

What are some brands that would be appreciated by a lady in this age group?

DH's gran (91) loves The Highland Soap Company.

My nan used to like Yardley Rose or Lilly of the valley. Do you have to buy the gift from dunelm or just return to the gift there?

My grandma (70) loves royal jelly. I previously worked in a care home and Molton & brown was very popular with the elderly

Just return the gift there. She’s also asked for biscuits so I’m going to M&S for those.
Thank you for the suggestions 😊

My elderly mum always liked yardley smellies and also a perfume called 4 7 11 which you can get in Boots.

My mum is in her 70s & would appreciate Dove or Nivea gift sets. We used to buy a family friend in her 80s those sets too (she sadly died a couple of years ago. Dove do some nice fragranced ones.

My own Nan used to love the toiletry sets you could get from M & S at Christmas. I remember one called Magnolia.

Shetlands · 26/10/2025 09:36

I'm in my 70s and my favourite scent is Coco Mademoiselle. My Mum is in her 90s and loves Estee Lauder's Beautiful.

I’ve gone for these three items from boots and I’ll get a nice big box of biscuits for her from marks too.

Thank you everyone

My mum loves 4711 also. I believe it was the number on the street of their factory or 1st store! I've often bought mum their cologne for Christmas. Last year, I discovered that they also make soap and many other toiletry things. Just incase you need some Christmas ideas.

There are a couple of trees in my local one. You go and pick a tag, it will give a vague description of who it is for (sex and age bracket) and an idea of things they like.
There were some for schools and cats protection on the ones at mine too so the way must have tags for charities also.
You use their suggestions to get them a Christmas gift and then take it back to the store with the tag (it has a barcode on) and they will give the gist you bought to the person.

This is the tag I picked. I have three kids so I buy tons of toys so I fancied treating an older lady as I don’t have any older ladies in my life to spoil.

What a lovely idea . Do you wrap the gifts before delivering back to the store ?

Might be best to avoid bubble bath in case bc of age she can't get in and out of the bath. Lovely idea!

Comefromaway · 26/10/2025 14:51

I usually go for teen boys as they are the most left out demographic as girls/little children are cuter but this year I knew I had a brand new designer gift set that was a duplicate present so I picked a 15 year old girl who wanted perfume.

Salome61 · 26/10/2025 14:59

What a lovely thing to do.

I remember the lovely 'older' bar maid at the local hotel was going to retire soon, and her husband came in to meet her from work, he was a lorry driver. She was about 70ish. I asked him what could I get her as a token of my appreciation - he said she likes Chanel. No 5. Ha ha I laughed, I like that too but have never been able to afford it! Got her a candle and some biscuits, she liked the photo of my dog the most!

I’m doing it for the first time this year, my tag is either for a male or female in a local care home who want a blanket and some smellies, my only concern is I hope the gifts actually go to the care home on the tag and the gifts are not broken up and redistributed.

I love the items you’ve picked - then I saw this tag and imagined your gift being delivered by footballers 😂
Anyway, that’s so lovely and kind of you, but I know what you mean about buying a different kind of gift. Proper spirit of Christmas, I’m going to find where my nearest Dunelm is.

Happyjoe · 26/10/2025 15:19

My (late) mum loved the body shop, any of it. As well as the lemon shaped and scented soaps that came from Yardley I think? She'd stick those in her knicker drawer, lol.
Anything that is good quality, a little bit special as an xmas treat. And how nice of you btw! That's what Xmas is about, caring.

I was going to get her something Hull FC but when I googled it, it was the rugby team with the football team being Hull City so I’ve just avoided the whole thing because I don’t want to get it wrong.

I gather that things don’t get redistributed unless someone has put something inappropriate in eg chocolate & they are allergic or if there are two siblings and one has got disproportionately more than the other.
