What are you getting your 5yo boys?

We have DSs 5th birthday next month, and then Christmas. His list this year consists of one small item πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ so he’s not very helpful! I think I’m pretty sorted now for birthday but I’m out of ideas for Christmas 😬

Looking for inspiration - what are you getting your 5yo boys?

Ooh, this is useful for me OP. My 8 year old has an enormous list (on the understanding he won’t get all of it), but 5 year old doesn’t know what he wants!

Definitely Lego for us, probably something emergency services. Bluey Lego went down a storm for his birthday.

We have lots of magnet tiles, so I’m trying to decide between a ball run expansion pack for them, or some kind of marble run.

Hama beads - probably some of the large flat trays from Ikea to expand what we have.

Stretch Armstrong - ours has finally split after many years of being an enthusiastic favourite!

Clothes, toiletries, etc - we traditionally give a few things which would have been bought anyway over the next few months for the fun of having a big pile of presents.

Something for his bedroom, maybe a little rug or cushion. Need to see what’s out there.

My littlest boy has just turned 6 and wants everything he sees on TV. He is a real animal lover so it tends to be anything fluffy and cute looking.

His list includes:

  • aquabeads
  • live pets
  • glowing capybara spa
  • magnetic blocks (Minecraft themed).
  • Lego
  • Happy Chicken Butt game
  • Annual
  • hot wheels and hot wheels transporter
  • scooby dool playmobil (his brother has the haunted house so that's what sparked this!).
  • a battery operated train for his brio set

Other things that would go down with him include fidgets, colouring sets, sticker books, slime and playdough. Any board games which are funny or include fart/snot/poo humour.

interesting that the Minecraft magnetic blocks have come up a few times - we got them too as he loves watching his brother play the game. We got a 200 block set which is hopefully enough to get started: it won’t be enough to build the massive model on the Amazon advert! What did everyone else go for?

WanderingWellies · 25/10/2025 10:13

My youngest is 6 tomorrow. I’ve got him a 2-wheel scooter, Stretch Armstrong, a game, a remote controlled all terrain Monster Truck and some Beyblades because he LOVES the Beyblade stuff my 7yo got for his birthday.

Im reading all of these great toys suggestions as im struggling what to think to get my 4.5year old ds this Christmas anything I suggestions for his list he doesn't seem interested in . Hes only interested in WWE
his list consists of so far

WWE double ring cage
Different wrestlers
wrestling weapons
the Wwe slambulance
Live pets .

Starting to think hes a little bit to much into Wwe for his age πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. He has played with his wrestlers since he was 2 my younger brother gifted ds them and its been a big hit ever since.

Ive got him a camera suitable for his age as he likes to take pictures of nature when we are out a walk . And have also purchased the fart yoga game .
Indoor basketball hoop game that lights up

And some toy nerf guns
I have a wild child lol

@Kaityx44 we have the slambulance as ds1 got it for Xmas last year, it’s brilliant! Also the ring that comes with a table and forklift - also great!

try vinted for the figures you can often get a few. No boxes but my 5 year old isn’t bothered about those he knows who they all are anyway!

Kaityx44 · 26/10/2025 08:21

@QforCucumber

Thank you ive bought 2 wrestlers brand new as get the accessories with them but will buy the rest 2nd hand as they are quite expensive . Im glad the slambulance was a hit hoping it is with my son too .

Find it hard to think of games for us all to play as a family as he just looses interest quickly .

Only game he still plays from last christmas is beat the camera game is brilliant and highly recommend.

Does anyone happen to have the Learning Resources Botley Coding Robot? πŸ€” any good?

Spotted this in Sainsbury’s and thought worth adding here in case of interest to your WWE fan!

My son is 5 a couple of weeks after Christmas, so a very similar age.

We won't do his actual list until slightly nearer the time (as interests seem to come and go so quickly sometimes...) but we have had a few discussions, and this is my list of what he has mentioned over the past couple of months:

-Lego Ninjago sets (the big thing he wants)
-Scooby-doo playmobile
-Monster/Kaiju toys
-soft toy swords
-next volumes of comic books in the series we have been reading
-Gems/stones/jewelery making type stuff
-minecraft blocks (not the game, they are magnetic blocks, a bit like magnetiles, but blocks that look like the ones from the game)
-1 special hotwheels car (car craze has ended, but he told me he sitll wants one "special" car

I'll normally add to it some more useful music/art/science themed stuff, and a bit of clothes.

Edited

Would uou have a link for Minecraft blocks? I’ve googled it but tbh no idea what I’m looking for but I think my 6yo would love this!

Incase anyone is looking for ideas - 5yo just got this for his birthday and hasn’t stopped playing with it since ☺️ it has been a huge hit in this house!

Following for ideas! Recommend the monster jam RC trucks - we have grave digger and megladon - both go over all terrain - snow so great for the winter. Tiger Shark seems a bit slower/less exciting but does chomp. Another vote for brio, kids knex, magnetic tiles, kinetic sand, hammer and nails kit, play doh

Whichone2024 · 16/11/2025 14:17

mines 3 but he’s getting Lego, big bunch of Schleich dinos (2nd hand), number blocks, dinosaur lego, puzzle, play doh, shoes and big box of magnetic tiles β€”-
even though some of those gifts are from family still feels like we spent a lot for the amount that we are giving. It adds up so quickly!
