Where to find decent sherry?

Not that long ago you could pick up a big bottle of amontillado and maybe a little bottle of manzanilla sherry in Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. No more.

I can't even find it in Waitrose of M&S. The most I have found is a small bottle of Fino in Sainsbury's so far, and it gets worse every year.

Where to go for sherry that isn't Bristol/Cream sherry?

Have you tried Tio Pepe? A colleague recommended it .

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/10/2025 11:11

I always have Tio Pepe for Christmas Day. I don't know why but it's my tipple of choice while cooking the Christmas dinner. Lovely stuff. Needs to be chilled.

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/10/2025 11:32

Majestic Wines have both amontillado and manzanilla sherries.

Blorengia · 23/10/2025 11:55

You might like to try a dry marsala or dry madeira just for a change.

Comes in a decent box as well.

M&S stock a few

ThisTaupeZebra · 23/10/2025 12:57

Thanks for the suggestion of Waitrose and M&S. I have never found them in store and don't want to do a large enough online shop with them to make it worth it. Though I do need to get half a case for Christmas so will have a look if I chose to order from those.

I hadn't thought of that and will take a look as they are generally well stocked. Is there the expectation you buy a case though?

That's a good shout. Any recommendations?

There are several nice bottles for sale on the Sainsbury’s app at the moment, it’s usually the same ones but there are decent Taste the Difference oloroso, pedro x, dry fino, couple of Tio Pepe, a large bottle of amontillado, plus a few others.
Our Waitrose usually has a good selection, I’ve never struggled to find something interesting in there. So I don’t really recognise the same things you’re seeing. If you’re stuck and haven’t got a Majestic or similar close by, you can order loads online, there are a lot on Amazon at the same kind of price you’d get in the supermarket.

I’ve just bought some Harvey’s Bristol queen from Morrisons online

You can buy single bottles. They do have offers if you buy 6 bottles (can be mixed products).

Exactly what OP doesn’t want.
@ThisTaupeZebraI have recently bought Manzanilla is Sainsburys.

notatinydancer · 23/10/2025 13:50

@ThisTaupeZebralots of Manzanilla on Amazon. Quite £££ though.

chalkiegirl · 23/10/2025 14:00

Tesco and Morrisons, where I live, usually have big bottles of fino. They are always placed on the bottom shelves, reflecting the popularity of sherry I suppose!

HelloClouds · 23/10/2025 16:11

Tio Pepe is bone-dry and lovely with olives, cured ham etc. Keep it in the fridge like they do in Spain!

Hayley1256 · 23/10/2025 16:13

Ocado have some nice ones

Ellerby · 23/10/2025 16:18

This is the best sherry ever. It's always in stock in our local Waitrose (maybe because of us 😆)

Ineffable23 · 23/10/2025 16:45

My local Waitrose has plenty of options on the shelf all year round including a very nice Amontillado. Alternatively the wine society is great (cooperative wine buying group, lifetime membership is £20).

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2025 12:00

We’ve found Amontillado in Waitrose. It’s my favourite winter tipple.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 24/10/2025 23:24

They do an own brand one in Waitrose.
