I’m bored of crap Xmas crackers so I’ve bought some fill your own ones from Shelter

I’ve got 2 big Xmas dinners to sort - one for 11 people and one for 16. The 11 one is 9 adults and 2 teenagers. The 16 person one is 11 adults, 3 primary school age and 2 teens.

What sort of different little gifts would you suggest? I like preparing loads in advance :)

I would keep it simple, include a paper hat for all, favourite alcohol minis for adults (if they drink), and chocolates or sweets for the children.

I do a mini shower gel - I get Morton Brown ones, a lindor and a scratch card.

ChampagneRose · 20/09/2025 17:42

Those are great ideas thank you!

Alcohol minis. Hand cream. Earrings. Fidget toys. Key rings. Scratch cards. I've added to mine over the years.

Star458 · 20/09/2025 17:48

You can get reusable felt cracker hats as well if you want.

ChampagneRose · 20/09/2025 17:49

Oh that’s great. I just hate all the crap that ends up being thrown away anyway. I love the idea of felt hats!

I didn’t even think of scratch cards so thanks for all the suggestions

I put mini chocolate Santa's in the kids ones and lindor in the adults along with hats and two lines each from 12 days of Christmas . Then after the meal we sing the song with everyone doing their own lines. I give everyone a low number and spread the high numbers out. Its actually hysterical. My brother accompanies on the piano but it could be done without music or to cd etc.

I try to put things in which are relevant to each person. If it fits, it can go in.
socks (funny ones/patterned)
pants (boxer shorts of football clubs went down well)
gloves
earings/necklace
croc badges
greggs/costa type vouchers
scratch cards
fold up reading glasses
multitool pen
mini bottles of alcohol
novelty chocolate
mini cosmetics/lipstick
molton brown/neom mini oils/hand cream/ body lotiion
tea towels
tins of mints
yankee candle votive
keyrings
handbag size atomiser to decant your own perfume.
mini fan to plug into phone
funny glasses cleaning cloth
choc stirrer
hot chocolate tins (TKMaxx usually has snoopy ones which are perfect size)
tea bag bath salts
bath bombs
soaps
badges
mini umbrella
mini blocks/lego
eject/fire missile/panic replacement buttons to fit into car cigarette lighter (love mine)
Lego mini figures of ourselves (from Funky 3D Faces, not sure they are still around but Etsy does bobble heads/models of photos)
I’ve done all these in the past and I know this has been asked many times in the past, so worth doing a search to see if there are any other ideas on previous threads.

For kids I’ve put in light up Christmas spinners and a piece of paper giving the first clue to a mini treasure hunt around the house.

Comtesse · 20/09/2025 18:34

I always fill our own crackers but would feel a bit “yikes” about doing so many! All power to you OP! Ideas:
a silky scarf
nail varnish
scrunchies
I put some nice measuring spoons in once
fancy erasers for the kids
Lego minifigures
booze miniatures
a sheet facemask

We even do customised jokes (eg French inlaws get French jokes). Don’t forget a sharpie for writing the recipient’s name on the cracker!

Final idea if you are feeling really extra - colour coordinate the crackers to the Christmas tablecloth! Obviously this is NOT necessary but looks amazing if you do…..

ChampagneRose · 20/09/2025 18:38

Lego minis is a great call. I will check the colour - good idea on the colour coord!

I have a Xmas wipe clean tablecloth that I use each year which is cream with robins so that fits - I have serviettes that are red and green from last year anyway so it sounds like I might be colour coordinating by accident 😂

Last year I bought a Lego copy advent calendar where all the “Lego” was Christmas themed and put those in the crackers. It went down very well with the kids and kept them occupied for a bit at the dinner table.

This was the one I bought . Not available anymore but there will be others.

Another one for scratch cards. Always go down well. I would check what you can fit in yours. I’ve got stuck at last minute when my planned items didn’t go in!
