Pokemon cards

Hi all,
My DS (13) has suddenly decided he wants to get into Pokémon cards, but I have no idea where to start. I’ve seen tins and booster packs in shops but don’t really understand the difference. He’s not looking to play, it’s more for collecting. I don’t want to spend loads of money on the wrong thing, What’s the best way to begin?

Would love some advice from anyone whose DCs are into it — thanks!

I got my son a pack from Amazon, second hand but wrapped like it was new and it was about 60 cards for just over £10. Also got him a folder to put them in for a tenner!

Tins just contain booster packs and maybe a plastic coin that you'd use during a battle.

I suppose the key thing is to find out if there is a particular set he wants to collect.

There is a new set coming out soon - Mega Evolutions. My son will probably ask for a Mega Evolutions Elite Trainer Box for Christmas. They are usually £50 and contain cool promo cards, lots of booster packs, nice card sleeves etc

I have two sons into Pokemon and theres lots of different collections. Tbh I would ask him exactly what he wants, whenever Ive seen cards they apparently the wrong type! My sons send me links of the sets they want😂

What was the pack from Amazon? Do you know what it was called?

The problem with the second hand packs is that you know you're not going to get anything rare/valuable as those cards would have been kept/sold on separately. So if your son wants to collect rather than play, I'd probably stick with new packs.
