Hello! Last year my son said he felt a bit disappointed he didn’t get anything to ’play with’ for Xmas. He got what was on his list (a kids fit bit, some sports stuff and books etc) but I think he missed the little kid excitement of new toys.

Can anyone suggest something for that age group which may fit the bill?

Also saving this as struggling to think of things for my 9.5 year old. He’s recently gotten into beyblades so that’s on my list. Thinking about a 3D printer as a family gift with him in mind.

Agree on the Nerf suggestions! To be honest my 44 year old husband would probably still be delighted with a Nerf gun for Christmas too.

How about card games and/or board games? Exploding Kittens and the like.

Ask him. I've never met your ten year old.

Thanks for that helpful input. I was asking for general idea he or I may not have thought of, and so he can have some surprises.

Some brilliant ideas elsewhere, thank you!

I saw a good kit the other day on Wicked Uncle called bracelets for boys.

My ds will be 10 and is not at all sporty or boy-ish. He's enjoyed musical instruments in the past - a drum went down well (I can't remember the type but it is metal and a orb and plays different notes depending on where you hut it rather than just a bang bang kind of drum) and also a smallish keyboard synthesizer (he plays piano but this has effects you can put on tunes etc).

He also likes thinks like the Eugy craft animals. This year he is getting a kind of simple version of a book nook that I think is in his capabilities.

He likes games too as long as I will play them with him - mousetrap, quirkle, cluedo etc. He showed me Hues and Clues in a shop recently and said he had seen it online and it looked fun so I am getting him that too.

And also agree with Lego as an excellent option.

Also have you wandered round a toyshop? I went to Hamleys to look rather than buy and got ideas of things that I just didn't know existed.

Could you link to the simple version of the book nook please @Streatfeild
Sounds great. TiA.

Streatfeild · 17/09/2025 11:56

It’s this. Not really a nook, so I may have mis-sold it to you
