My dc are late teens and have recently become quite interested in an after dinner game of something.
We have blockus, monopoly, rummikub and play cards.
So hit me with your suggestions for a couple of games to get for Christmas to add to our collection.

There are a huge number of different types of board games outside of the likes of Monopoly.
If you want something quick, good ones I’ve played are Codenames, Secret Hitler, Skulls, Herd Mentality.
If you want something a bit longer, more involved there are loads! Personally I like Dume Imperium, Obsession & Viticulture. Currently looking at the new Jane Austen themed board game called Endearment.
See if you can find a local board game shop/cafe & see what looks good.

Carcassonne and Dixit would be good bets for that age

My kids are younger but we are enjoying Herd Mentality and Chameleon and (oldies are the best) Cluedo.

Teach them poker and buy some chips!

Pandemic is my all time favourite board game. I absolutely love it. If you try it and enjoy it, you can buy a legacy version where each time you play it, the game changes completely - so much fun.

Carcassone is brilliant and you can get loads of expansion packs for it

Ticket to Ride is great from about 6 up. The older you get, the more you think about strategy.

Plague Inc was another fun one.

GameWheelsAlarm · 16/09/2025 11:13

Another vote for Carcassonne. With the Princess & Dragon expansion to be more interesting.

Cosmoctopus

Azul

Just remembered “Horrified” that was great too!
