Extra Thick Pyjamas

Hi all,
Bit of a Christmas-themed plea for help! I’ve got fibromyalgia and one of the hardest bits this time of year is that I’m constantly cold. At night I’m already in a thick fleece pyjama set with a snuddie on top, under a 13 tog duvet — and I’m still shivering away.

So, does anyone have recommendations for really thick PJs that could actually keep me toasty?

Whilst some clothing does keep you warm, it’s actually good to not wear too much under duvets and in sleeping bags because it stops your body heat heating up your bed. Layer up on top of your duvet instead and put a fleece blanket under your sheets

You need a heated throw! I feel the cold terribly and live under mine for about 9 months of the year.

Electric blanket underneath, and a reminder on your phone to turn it on an hour before you go to bed.

DinoLil · 15/09/2025 21:28

I agree with PP.

Maybe a weighted blanket, for security rather than heat. Having that sense of weight on you is very comforting. Also, a fluffy throw you can pull over the blanket and duvet. That traps heat in. And socks! Bed socks. If your feet are warm, you'll be warm.

You could have an electric blanket under your bottom sheet. Again, what I have. I turn it on whilst I faff about getting ready for bed then turn it off when I get in. You're already getting into a cosy space, that way.

Brushed cotton PJs, light but warm. Can't beat those! And, if none if those tips work for you, get a dog to sleep at the end of you bed like a giant snoring hot water bottle!

Do you have teddy fleece bedding? It’s soooooo toasty!!!

DinoLil · 15/09/2025 21:40

@pinkpony88watch out with Teddy fleece bedding! From experience, my washing machine couldn't cope with it and I had to throw my duvet away because it went mouldy as it didn't 'breathe' when it was on the bed. Very snuggly though!

Good bed socks make all the difference - as do natural materials rather than polyester fleece. Putting another duvet (even a thin one) under the bottom sheet gives insulation all round you.

Do you heat your bedroom? Turn it up a couple of degrees if you can.

Oooh that’s odd! I’ve not noticed any issues with the washing machine, although I do have to wash the duvet cover and bottom sheet separately, but I’ll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for all this!

I got a heated throw last year and it has changed my life

Have you tried a hat? I know it works when you are camping, but it might be a step too far in your own home.
You could go Christmas themed with a long one like Ebenezer Scrooge (that part is a joke)

I had to be surgically removed from mine last winter😄

It eventually stopped working ( dog claw damage ) but there’s a new one waiting for me in my Amazon basket, just got to press “buy now” …. I’m resisting at the moment as I’ve got a lot to do in the house. The minute that throw arrives…well… that’s it! I’m under it til Spring!

Try the primark recycled polyester pjs, that stuff boils me lol.

IHeartFridays · 18/09/2025 17:21

Just to add if using an electric blanket or over blanket invest in a smart plug. Mine is set to come on 9-12pm and then also 6-8am. Just means you never forget to put it on!
