Have you considered looking for a preloved one? My friend picked one up a few years ago for her daughter from marketplace for £80 and it had hardly been played with! She stuck a big pink bow on the top and her daughter didn't know the difference it's always worth a look.

Look on FB marketplace. There will be tons of them listed very cheaply as they are huge bulky items which are difficult to get rid of (like giant teddies).

Your 6 year old won't care that it's not in a box and best of all it will be pre built so you won't waste an evening assembling it.

Ours was £5 on Facebook marketplace!

As it’s one of those toys that needs assembling the night before, definitely look for a used one.

Okay thank you everyone, i need to look on FB marketplace or eBay

I've thrown away so many of dd's expensive toys 😪 so might be a good idea

Then again, when I was a kid, a barbie dreamhouse was the dream! 😭 xx

You have thrown toys away?! That’s absolutely appalling.

All of my DD’s expensive toys are secondhand or from ebay etc and we can easily afford new. It’s just so much more ethical to get used ones. DD will be opening a large boxed Playmobil set later today that I got on Ebay for £40 as a duplicate gift. It usually retails at £120+. There were also plenty of secondhand ones I could’ve had instead.

We got £300 worth of Barbie stuff for £50 on marketplace. It was immaculate. I don’t even pretend to DD that it’s new, she is 6 today and understands all about Vinted amd Ebay and Marketplace etc and that a lot of her things come from there. She doesn’t care as long as it has all the bits (so I am picky).

Do you actually mean you throw away these toys or are you exaggerating? I can't think why you'd be throwing toys away?

My mistake, by thrown away, i did mean leave outside or take to the charity shop

Unless theyre damaged and ungiveable, I'll take them to the dump or put them in the bin

Nothing wrong with second hand stuff imo, although this barbie house will be a gift for my inner child as well 🤭

If you have a Vinted account OP there's a few there in good condition, like this one.

@mumofoneAloneandwell Good luck. If you get one then hope your DD will let you play with it too 😄.

ChasingTheDuck · 15/09/2025 21:08

Definitely look on FB market place for local ones. I got my dds second hand with hundreds and hundreds of pounds worth of accessories. I set it all up so she walked down to it all with a big bow on it.

I'm having issues finding the exact one but I will keep looking - its so expensive for something that won't sell for close to the original price in future
