Refurbished iphone

One of my DC has asked for an iPhone 13 for Christmas, I've been looking at refurbished models. We've always had android and I've bought phones and tablets on Amazon prime day and through Black Friday deals, do iPhones come down much in these sales?

And is it better to buy from sites like Backmarket and Music Magpie? I was looking at eBay and Amazon too.

Thanks

I buy most of my tech refurbished. CEX is where I normally end up buying from, followed by Amazon.

I got DD a refurbished IPhone from AO last Christmas- its been really good

Cex has been great for us for refurb phones and laptops. We usually go in store. They do a 5 year warranty I believe now too!

Also recommend CEX, have had phones, cameras and a sound bar from them with no issues. You can buy instore and inspect the item if you prefer.

Just to add, the iPhone 17 launches in the UK on Friday - that usually nudges down the price of older models so worth waiting a few weeks.

Hiptothisjive · 14/09/2025 18:26

I can highly recommend the big phone store online. Best prices, true to descriptions and good selection. You can also add on screen protectors so that’s all done for you.

Wr have looked at and researched them all but they are the best by far.

Be careful that you don’t buy a phone that can’t be updated regularly. Apple do stop older models from being able to update to new software. I’m not sure what models are recently or soon to be dropped off

HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/09/2025 18:56

We bought DD one off of Music Magpie, only lasted about a year and was always glitchy. Would be hesitant about buying second have again.

MêmePasPeur · 14/09/2025 19:07

Recently bought an iPhone 14 from Back Market. Really pleased with it. The prices fluctuate from hour to hour though so it’s worth watching for a bit before buying.

Clarissaharissa · 14/09/2025 19:09

Lots to check out, thank you! I was actually looking at the Big phone store on eBay so great to hear a positive review. Hadn't realised there was a new phone coming out and want to leave it closer to Christmas to make the most of any warranty so hopefully there will be a few deals about 🤞🏻

Both my DDs first iPhones were from music magpie and never had any issues with them

whatsinanameeh · 14/09/2025 19:23

I recently bought my son a refurbished, iPhone on the big phone store, you can upgrade to a new battery for 30 quid which is well worth it. I was sceptical because we don't normally buy secondhand and the High Street shops didn't see much of a saving compared to just buying new but I was really pleased with this website-especially we bought a pristine quality phone and it genuinely looks pristine

AaBbCcD · 14/09/2025 19:30

Unless you only want it for a year or so, I wouldn’t buy an iPhone 13. iPhones stop receiving updates after 5 or so years so you may find it can’t be updated after 2026

paranoidnamechanger · 14/09/2025 19:38

You can buy refurbished directly from the Apple website and I wouldn’t buy anywhere else if I wanted a refurbished Apple phone or Mac. But as mentioned earlier, be careful which iPhone you get because the earlier the model the more likely it is that Apple will soon stop supporting that phone or has done already. As from tomorrow, only iPhones 11 and later will be supported with the new update. The 13 will probably stop being supported in 2027.

My current phone came from Music Magpie, the previous one was a factory refurb from Argos, both considerably cheaper than a brand new phone. About time people realised that Apple build in deliberate obsolesence to boost their profits, rather than provide a better user experience.I use my phone to make calls and the occasional text, the rest is just bullshit.

No smartphone, regardless of who manufactured it, is designed to be supported forever - that’s not how tech works, it evolves constantly. The iPhone XR (obsolete from tomorrow) lasted seven years - that’s pretty good. The user experience with an iPhone built in the past few years is great and it’s probably why it’s the world’s biggest selling smartphone.

Pretty sure most people know this.

Got DD a refurbished iPhone from backmarket a few years ago, no problems

Xmasbaby11 · 21/09/2025 22:49

I've bought a couple of iphones from Backmarket and they've been great - Iphone 11 (3 years ago) and Iphone 13 (more recently). Both have been excellent and no problems yet.

ifitlookslikesparkles · 21/09/2025 23:32

I always buy refurbished phones from Giffgaff. In fact yesterday I received an iPhone 16 256gb in good condition. The battery was 100% condition and there were only a few scratches at the side of the camera otherwise it’s amazing. You can pay the phones up too. I just gave my daughter my iPhone 14. Both phones at the time of purchase were about £560

ifitlookslikesparkles · 21/09/2025 23:33

I should also say I opt to pay up over 2 years for the phone. So it’s cheaper than contract usually

BigBoots67 · 21/09/2025 23:36

I get my refurbs from giff gaff, I’velpaid £12pm for the 13 I bought last year.after paying an initial fee, it’s been great. The battery life it came with I remember being so impressed, and it was meant to be “good” condition but it was totally as new tbh

queenoftheglee · 23/09/2025 11:07

Another vote for backmarket. We have used them very recently for iPhone 14s, and have been very impressed. I have added a referral code here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share if you want to take £10 off your order

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2025 11:16

Cex or back market - I’ve got from both

back market good as could pay over 3mths
