My toddler has birthday and Christmas 3 weeks apart and will be 3 this year. Shes starting to grow out of the garden rocker, my first slide and im trying to look in the summer sales for what she can use next summer which I can get for birthday or Christmas.

And if there any other non garden toys that your 3 year old tomboy girl loves then please let me know, even if its a stocking filler it would be great to get some ideas for her.

Shes more into day to day role play then laying with toy figures such as bluey. Shes more interested in playing shops with baby, playing in her kitchen, playing kn the floor beam and stepping stones

How about a mud kitchen for the garden? I’ve seen some are marked down in the summer sales already. Other ideas that my 3 year old daughter likes are magnatiles & kinetic sand. x

Mine was 3 just before Christmas last year, sounds similar interests to your DD, and the things still in most frequent use are leapfrog ice cream cart, a hula hoop, ELC wooden doctors play set.

Balance bike! We got ours one at age 2 and he didn't start until 2.5 but loves is. I'm also following this as mine is 3 around new year and we need ideas for him too. He's very active and we don't have tonnes of space for indoor role play stuff. I'm thinking electric Toothbrush, more puzzles and games that he can now do, perhaps a mud kitchen, more plastic animals and one of those fold up flexible car tracks that suctions onto most surfaces to roll mini cars down

Do they have a scooter yet? My daughter got her first at 3 and its had so much use. She also loves her water play table in the garden.

My child loves a scooter, balance bike, cricket set, skittles, Duplo for role playing and building with, outdoor darts set and a play frame.

Scooter or ride on toy depending on space. My little girls got a pedal digger and although she cant ride it very far in the garden she pedaling on it and washing it on hot days.

Sandpit with spades or diggers etc.

Magnet tiles.

Brio/cheap sets.

Lego (hers is for 4+ but instructions are really simple to follow under supervision, she got it for 3rd birthday)

Digital camera. We bought a cheap one on amazon for 3rd birthday and she instantly worked out how to take a picture. Spent all day taking photos. Its really nice for us to look back on and see what she wanted to take pictures of.

Following! Love the idea of a camera and an electric toothbrush. We're getting ours a bike and helmet, and a big wooden ark/boat (for all his animals, he likes to play animals on the big boat) for his birthday but we're stuck for Christmas. He often plays with the Melissa and doug(?) ice cream cart thing at friends houses. Also wondering whether to jump into Duplo or not?

Other ideas - new water bottle and lunchbox, wellies, big nice books about current interests (here it's space)

If she likes role play but not action figures then she's the right age to start getting into dress up. DD got her first doctors kit at 3 and she still plays with it now at 6 (we've had to replace the outfit a few times though!).

Introducing some simple games like matching pairs and snap would work now too. Orchard Toys do a great range of little kid games.

We got DD her first pair of binoculars the summer before she turned 3 (she's an early December baby too) and they've been awesome! Fab for car journeys etc. A small magnifying glass for investigating bugs and leaves in the garden went down well too (great stocking filler!).

A balance bike would be a good outdoor one too. A little scooter too. And a swing.

My go to gift for a three year old is a metre of fabric and a metre of ribbon. Their little minds find all sorts of uses for it.

I would always go for duplo. Endless possibilities.

Raggeo · 13/08/2025 11:49

Balance bike, scooter, big slide, a playhouse for the garden if you have space.

Not sure if they’re still selling them but Aldi did a great range of garden games that have been endlessly played with here - skittles, wooden animals that you knock down with bean bags,
a wooden stand with holes in that you have to get bean bags through and a pop up play tent thing.

I also picked up a random buy on amazon while looking for something else - a set of 10 felt superhero eye masks and they were the favourite thing to come out of the stocking last year.
