Not Scotland/Edinburgh. Can fly, happy to do so and happy to go abroad. Ideally as a long day trip or a quick overnight.

I'm going to try York this year I think.

SparklyBrickViper · 29/06/2025 18:33

Cardiff.

Lots of different stalls, spread out across a few streets in the city centre. As it’s not as “famous” as Bath, York etc, whilst it’s busy it’s not uncomfortably packed.

Strasbourg is a good one and has a tiny airport which budget airlines favour, or you can fly into Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (just as small but friendlier staff) and take a hire car or train across the border.

Aachen. Fly to Cologne/Bonn and then you can visit either of theirs too.

Germany has the best Christmas markets. Berlin, Cologne and Nuremberg were all lovely

TimeToStopLurking · 29/06/2025 21:30

Ooh yes, agree with pp.. also did Aachen when visiting Cologne Christmas Markets

MarySueSaidBoo · 29/06/2025 21:32

Bath used to be lovely but it's gotten overly done for me and there are too many overpriced stalls now. We also went to Prague one year and that was the same - all the same stalls selling very expensive tourist tat. So disappointing, we didn't come back with one single gift!

corlan · 29/06/2025 21:33

Heidelberg also good.

devildeepbluesea · 29/06/2025 21:35

echoing PP - Cardiff is lovely,

Abroad, Olomouç in Czechia is not well known. I loved it there

Wolfpa · 29/06/2025 21:35

Esslingen in Germany, you can also see Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg markets on the same trip.

ZenNudist · 29/06/2025 21:38

Cologne

Nuremberg was lovely.

We're doing Munich this year.

Book your flights ASAP, if the price hasn't already leapt upwards.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 30/06/2025 07:10

Done Vienna and Munich. Munich actually the better market, but Vienna much prettier and enjoyable IMO.

Thank you for all the suggestions.
