Thinking of ideas for next year whilst it's fresh for you :)

For my 6 year old nephew, the hits were a Minions Fart Blaster (I know!), whoopee cushion, robot battle bots, and a remote controlled robo lizard that actually climbs the walls.

PrincessAnne4Eva · 30/12/2024 22:24

Hot Wheels design bike.
A marble run.
Hot Wheels cars.
Toy kitchen (we already had lots of toy food).
A cuddly car for bedtime.
A giant car transporter.

DS loves cars btw. 🤣

mynameiscalypso · 30/12/2024 22:28

DS is 5 so bang in the middle! Big hits have been a card game called Mind the Gap which is basically Uno but with tube stops. We've played it multiple times a day. I also bought him a puzzle-by-numbers thing of a rocket which kept him solidly occupied for two days and he's now broken it up so he can do it again. He loves weather so we also bought him a little plastic weather station that you put together and put in the garden to see the temperature, rainfall, wind etc. The Science Museum had a great collection of robotics/coding toys which my family bought him. We haven't got them out yet but I think they'll be big hits.

He also loved his new dressing gown and slippers.

FanofLeaves · 30/12/2024 22:31

A Bluetooth microphone that has a karaoke setting. It’s been Karoke central for days and my ears are ringing. The other hits were a cuddly shark cushion that flips out into a sleeping bag, and a play mat with the Silverstone race circuit on it.

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 30/12/2024 22:46

I have a 4 nearly 5 year old.
Vtech DJ mixer (although it's been confiscated a few times 😂)
Akedo giants
Hot wheels track box
Colour change hot wheels cars
Playmobil pirate island and ship

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/12/2024 22:49

DS will be 6 in 3 weeks, top gifts this Christmas have included:

  • Instant print camera (the kind with thermal paper and no ink!). You can go ‘fancy’ with VTech or similar but I got a random one off Amazon thanks to the Mumsnet Christmas bargain threads; came in under £20!
  • Lego (always a hit - DS loves Lego City but branched out into Technic this year)
  • Gravitrax expansion set (he got the starter set last year and it’s been a slow burn as he was probably a bit young, but it’s coming into its own now!)
  • Pokémon squishmallow
  • 3D jigsaw (Ravensburger, the pieces are plastic! It’s pretty cool tbh)
  • Nintendo switch with Lego City Undercover and Mariokart
  • Switch accessories like steering wheels to use with the joycons for Mariokart (unbranded from Amazon, about £25)

We also bought his Nannie / my MIL a game called Feeder Frenzy (she has a long running feud with the squirrels in her garden) and this has been a hit with every member of the family - three generations of us aged 5-66 flinging squishy squirrels (and ourselves) around the room. It’s a miracle nobody’s injured themselves but I’d highly recommend it 🤣
