Let’s offer the antidote to MNetters who are alone and who may be finding it a challenge.

Me first. This would have been my ninth Christmas solo. I couldn’t face another. Luckily this year, and unusually, I had spare cash.

I am posting this from a hotel room in Rome. The church bells are very lively here which lifts my heart. I’m doing what I would be doing at home, which feels positive in itself. I feel I am looking reality square in the face and instead of wishing for what cannot be, I making a joy from the good that is possible.

Have a fabulous time, good for you @Darkerdreamingdescribe I went abroad on my own many years ago following a break up, best thing I did that year.

I'm not alone, I have my son here but also have a very challenging foster child at home so things are a bit different.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas OP, been there many years, too and like you decided to try and focus on the good and positive, the peace, the lack of family drama (ha!) and doing whatever I wanted. I hope everyone on here has a restful day x

My first alone here. I've had coffee in bed, I have cleaned and tidied and am setting off to walk up a hill to watch the sun rise.

Rome! Excellent @Darkerdreamingdescribe
You made a great decision to enjoy your own company and the very best the world has to offer.
I'm not even sure what I'm doing, I'm invited but ill and had warned them I probably won't make it. Now I've woken up almost better! Should I pull myself together and go or not?
Got about three hours to decide...
Have a bloody lovely day wandering round Rome.

Rome! That's brilliant.

Yes I've done similar and arranged wonderful experiences on dates/anniversaries that i struggled with. The worst date in my diary I decided to face head on. When the date arrived, I was on a white beach with blue/green clear water fulfilling a dream of galloping down it on a beautiful horse.

The bad memory of that date is now replaced with a beautiful experience.

Enjoy Rome, let us know how you get on x

@Bongbongbing @heldinadream @LadyLolaRuben @Ted27 @TheLurpackYears

I making myself my best possible friend.

It is a case of rolling the shit in glitter. Not gaslighting that I hoped it could be different. Looking reality square in the face feels warrior like. @LadyLolaRuben absolutely, it possible to overlay challenging memories. The alternative is to feel tormented by the past. Well fuck that!!

Yes OP overlaying memories is exactly what it is. Hope you've had a good time in Rome
