How are your stocking missions going?

I've just had to cut DD's stocking off her wrist because she'd decided to tie herself to it. DS threw open his bedroom door and shouted AHA! during this operation. So neither child's stocking has been done yet. They're 12 and 14 FFS.

I hope everyone else is doing better!

My dd is home from Uni for Christmas but still likes a stocking.

When she was little, there was a lot of creeping around at night. This year, I'm going to do it in the morning because I can guarantee that I'll be downstairs a couple of hours before she wakes up. 🤣

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 24/12/2024 23:33

My parents still crept in to do my stocking when I was an adult 😂

This made me laugh. I had to tell DS that stockings are not hung from the ceiling and booby traps are forbidden….. he’s 12, so thinks it’s hilarious to prank us / Santa!

freshsunday · 24/12/2024 23:46

My 8 yr old is on her 3rd podcast and just CAN'T sleep. I really need to get this mission over with so I can! The toddler will be up soon 😆

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 24/12/2024 23:46

Just about to get it done, when a loud thumping sound and find dd2(5) half dressed having woken up and decided it must be morning. Tears and cuddles to get back to bed. Now have to restart the wait for deep sleep.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 24/12/2024 23:47

I've lost the stockings. Can't find them anywhere.

TeamPolin · 24/12/2024 23:47

I remember my Mum sneaking in to do my stocking when I was 23 😁

Ours is in place. Tiptoeing off to bed now.

MonopolyQueen · 24/12/2024 23:49

your kids sound fab! My 14 yo stayed up to harass me about getting her gifts early (no) and not being woken up by her db early tomorrow (fat chance of avoiding that). I have just done her stocking and I’m really pleased with the haul, she is not really expecting anything and I found some adorable bits and bobs for her. I luuuurve Christmas, but I do miss the days of Santa traps.

Chaseandstatus · 24/12/2024 23:49

Wrapped one DC’s but not the other (they are both adults and one didn’t tidy up the wrapping paper last year so this year I’m not wasting my energy!!) Can’t sneak them into rooms as DS is still out 😂

BrunchBarBandit · 24/12/2024 23:50

Our kids 16 & 12 are having a sleepover in 12 year olds room. They’re still awake so we’ve left the stockings outside the door this time

crackofdoom · 24/12/2024 23:50

God, I feel like such a spoilsport in comparison. 14 year old DS was still pottering around at 9.30 when I'd finished wrapping the stocking presents so I just handed him a big bag and went "There you go, put those at the end of your bed. Ho ho ho" 😆

Blimeor · 24/12/2024 23:50

Did it just now after a false start earlier where I had to mouth "ABORT! ABORT!" to DH and creep back out if the room as dd started to stir. Glad it's done. I'm desperate to go to sleep now!

ThereTheyGo · 24/12/2024 23:51

Attic ladder creaking was like a thunderstorm inside the quiet house. I was standing watch in the youngest's room and she woke up half way through. So all paused and hanging out here until she falls back asleep. She's the last believer, and suspicious, so we were hoping to get another year. I'm so bloomin' tired.

LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaa · 24/12/2024 23:52

Alarm set at 5am to do my mission.

Lesson learnt from the year DD woke up at 2am, felt her stocking and declared “HE’S BEEN!” 😭

Cece92 · 24/12/2024 23:53

My DD11 is 11pm for sleep time on holidays and weekends. She's fell asleep about 10 mins ago so presents are out and went to do her stocking hanging up by the bed. I dropped the bottle of fizzy juice in it (it's a treat) and it snapped off lol! So I've had to put it on her desk and hope she sees it when she wakes up. Cause if the stockings filled santas been (she knows he's not real but we still do these things) xxx

They're in the wardrobe. Shoved down the back. If they're anything like mine!

The3rdWatermelon · 24/12/2024 23:53

Santa was too enthusiastic in stuffing our 2 year old’s stocking and had to sit down and sew it back up again

Cryingatthegym · 24/12/2024 23:54

Thought I was home and dry with kids asleep and stockings filled and on the landing - until I heard DD10 wander past my door (and the stockings) just a minute ago. Too tired to care at this point!

Alpinesnoozer · 24/12/2024 23:55

We always leave at the top of the stairs or outside the door - much easier!

XmasTimeNoSnow · 24/12/2024 23:55

@RealHousewivesOfTaunton, your OP made me laugh.
I've just done ours here. Dc like them in their room which involves me going in to check they're asleep, collect the stockings then put them back in quickly before they wake up and notice they're missing. I also don't like to do it too early as if they wake up (and see the stupidly long gift hanging out the top) they will get overexcited and think it's morning.
It's all very stressful.
Good luck everyone!

JamMakingWannaBe · 24/12/2024 23:55

Santa leaves the gifts next to the fireplace in the front room so no bedroom stocking mission for us but even so DD has been up several times "for some water" then "for a wee"...

AutoP1lot · 24/12/2024 23:57

DC both asked to go to bed at 9. DD straight to sleep, DS read for an hour. Santa sacks filled under the Chrisymas tree by 11 and I reckon I'll be asleep in minutes

HooMoo · 25/12/2024 00:08

Stocking was all done by 8pm! But she’s only 11 months 😆

Dottydoodoo · 25/12/2024 00:13

I've just tried to do it and I could see a pair of eyes belonging to 8 year old DS looking back at me Xmas Shock I just want to go to bed!!

TheGriffle · 25/12/2024 00:19

I’ve royally fucked ours up!

Dd2 shouted me 2 minutes after Dh deposited hers saying she couldn’t get back to sleep, her stocking was underneath her high sleeper so thankfully she didn’t see it but I don’t know if her creaky floorboards woke her up as Dh was taking hers in.

We then had to wait a while for her to drop back off and then I went to do dd1’s, accidentally laid the stocking on her bloody leg and she shouted just as I’d snuck out the room. Dh went in and she saw the stocking and he acted suprised but ffs!

I hate the stress!
