When people ask this on Boxing Day for some reason I get really irritated.
For me Christmas is a festive season that doesn't end on midnight Christmas night.
Does anyone else feel like this ?

Yep ! As far as I'm concerned it's Christmas until I'm back to work on 2nd ! Always take decs down on the 1st . So feel back to normality Xmas Confused

Cupcakegirl13 · 24/12/2024 17:01

It’s defo a 12 day event here !

AnyoneSomeone · 24/12/2024 17:01

I assume they mean did you have a good Christmas day. So no, I don't get irritated by perfectly normal pleasantries.

HoppityBun · 24/12/2024 17:08

I agree OP. Not a lot of people seem to know that there are 12 days of Christmas and the first day is… Christmas Day!

yorktown · 24/12/2024 17:32

I thought you were asking - and I was thinking Christmas Eve is a bit too soon even for me.

StressedQueen · 24/12/2024 17:34

I feel like it's just a polite question...not something to be irritated by. They clearly are just being nice and asking if your Christmas Day was lovely. How long you choose to celebrate the Christmas season is up to you.

swimsong · 24/12/2024 17:38

I think Christmas stops on the first bin day.

BlueyInsideVoice · 24/12/2024 19:27

Or the people who say 'well that's it done for another year' as soon as the gifts have been opened/once dinner has been eaten.

Annoys me so much, puts such a dampener on things.

It's definitely stays festive in this house until the 2nd January.

gamerchick · 24/12/2024 19:29

It's just something to say I think. For a minute we've all got something in common type of thing.

Are you having a good Christmas would be better probably.

gamerchick · 24/12/2024 19:30

Plus some of us only get a couple of days off work. Christmas is over then for us.

pizzaHeart · 24/12/2024 19:33

I think it’s a tricky period as some people might be disappointed about work arrangements, who visited whom, who spend the day with whom, how the whole presents situation went so to ask : “Did you have a good Christmas?”
is much safer and gives people chance to add some details how their Christmas Day went and then conversation goes from there.

We definitely in a festive mood for more then one day but nowhere until February 🙂

FestiveFruitloop · 25/12/2024 00:06

Has anyone ever noticed that the answer to this is nearly always 'Quiet, you know.' 😄 I mean, mine usually is too, but I'm always hoping someone will answer 'Yeah, it was a complete p*ss-fest' or something just to shake things up a bit 😄

Mistressofnone · 25/12/2024 00:38

Yes I agree OP! And why after 5 weeks of Christmas adverts and songs, does it all just disappear from Christmas night? Jet2 Jet2 Jet2

ZippyCat · 25/12/2024 01:14

This one doesn't bother me back to work boxing day so that annoys me more haha work in retail ,

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/12/2024 02:58

I have a friend who puts her decs up early November and takes them Down Christmas night for a clean start on Boxing Day. In her mind Christmas is done and it's back to normal. I find that so strange.

Christmas is 12 days/nights

I like the people whose lights are still up in April.

poormenagain · 25/12/2024 03:13

It doesn't bother me much now, because I mentally add the implied "Eve/Day". But to me Christmas starts on 24 December and ends on 6 January.

I'm always hoping someone will answer "Yeah, it was a complete pss-fest" or something just to shake things up a bit. Not Christmas, but I once formulaically asked a US-based colleague (we all telecommute 100%) how his Thanksgiving was, and got a story about how his SIL had announced at the dinner table that she was leaving his brother and going away with her high school sweetheart, with whom she'd recently reconnected on SM. Apparently neither the brother nor their two teenage children (who were also at the table) had had any preparation for this.

I will happily take a quiet holiday any time in preference to this!

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/12/2024 04:29

My neighbours have a house beautifully festooned from late November every year.

They take it all down on Xmas night. 😶

Happiestwhen · 25/12/2024 15:08

Omg this gives me the rage too! It's not over, at least not until New Year's Eve!! I still wear my Christmas jumpers until then, hope it pees some people off. Lol
