Nordic Socks UK - a bit rubbish?

Mipil · 11/12/2024 14:05

Lurking on the Christmas board has saved me a small fortune and led me to some great gift ideas. There seem to have been quite a few recommendations for Nordic Socks and links to their 50% off Black Friday deal was posted on some threads so I ordered some as stocking fillers.

I was okay with them not being 100% Merino wool as a blend can be softer and more hard wearing but the yarn is scratchy and plasticy feeling. They are poorly made with dropped stitches, wonky seams, elastic stitching coming through on the outside, loose threads.

Anyone else disappointed by them? I am starting to wonder if all the recommendations were genuine or very clever spam 🙄

I love wool socks for the winter as I always have cold feet. I ordered some from Nordic socks assuming they were wool. They were not. They were very cheap looking and I also thought the quality was poor. Send them back, they're really not worth keeping. 😟

Runskiyoga · 11/12/2024 14:28

I like the look and don't mind the feel but they are not that warm and I have started wearing thick walking socks instead.

Jemimapuddleduk · 11/12/2024 14:29

They are a scam. I ordered loads last year and returned them all, awful things.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 11/12/2024 14:32

There's more than one company out there and sadly it is now difficult to spot the real from the faux. I can't remember where mine are from, I don't even know what they are made of, but three years and counting. Very warm, wash well and if they were tat they'd be in the bin!

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 11/12/2024 14:33

Yeah, they seem to have a very effective marketing team. The patterns are cute but they're a cheap product at not cheap prices.

H&M often have socks in that style. They seem much better quality and are about £13 for two pairs.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/12/2024 14:34

Yes, they are shit. I was given some as a gift so I couldn't say anything, but they were nasty to begin with and then didn't wash well.

If you can return them and get your money back, I would.

IKnowYouKnowww · 11/12/2024 14:49

Saw the advert for them on here and was tempted but didn't.

Saw someone on the train scrolling Facebook and they were also looking at a Nordic socks advert! It was pretty appealing and they clicked through for a look.

So their marketing team are clearly working overtime at the moment. Good to know re the superior H&M alternative!

Cafecontribution · 11/12/2024 15:10

Can anyone link to them?

I have some Nordic style socks from Amazon a few years ago & they have been great & get loads of compliments.

I wish you could remember 😂

I thought I had done my due diligence 😂 I looked at several sites. I checked Trustpilot. Someone on here specifically mentioned this site as not being one selling cheap imported socks from China and that they were good quality 🤷‍♀️ The company is based in Germany and the site states that they are made in Europe so I felt reassured that they weren’t some dropshipping scam. Actually, they are marked as being made in Turkey, so although that could be geographically correct depending on where the factory is located in Turkey, it feels a little disingenuous and deliberately misleading…

Hmm… let’s see what their customer service says.

It was this one, @Cafecontribution:

It seems they have a UK warehouse, which I also found reassuring from a consumer rights point of view.

Oh well, I guess I need to do some replacement sock shopping 😡

Anyone have any genuine recommendations?

The language / syntax used on that website instantly makes me feel suspicious- reads like English is not their first language

ExquisiteDecorations · 11/12/2024 15:55

I have been getting constact adverts for these on my FB/insta feeds, the advertising is obviously going viral, they do look gorgeous, thanks for the warning though, I will avoid.

SeasonsGreetingsBatFace · 11/12/2024 15:55

They talk about having 1,000,000 happy customers and then 10,000 reviews - which is it?

Language is stilted, not naturally flowing and uses Americanisms

These are all things to look out for when on a website you've not used before - but I appreciate this is a little too late now!

olivehater · 11/12/2024 15:56

They shrink in the wash

EmmyPankhurst · 11/12/2024 15:57

I ordered some within the past year - they were awful. I returned them all which wasn't easy and bought some smart wool socks instead.

They are bit more expensive but are genuinely nice product. Outdoor type shops also often sell them.

(I don't work for them).

Or it could be that they just used cheap AI translation.

I did my due diligence 🙄 They have a 4.6 rating on Trustpilot based on 10k reviews. I would assume they say they have 1 million happy customers because they have 1 million customers who haven’t complained or returned theI order 🤷‍♀️ There were no other red flags.

Fair enough - if you did your due diligence then that's all you can do ...

wherethewaterisdarker · 11/12/2024 17:44

I bought some of the merino wool ones from that exact website a few years ago and the socks are gorgeous, very warm and cosy and still going strong! I can only think the quality has massively declined in that time?!

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 11/12/2024 18:10

I had some of these ages ago, they were definitely not wooly like the close up picture shows.
They were thin and didn't take long to get holes in the toes / heels.
You're better off buying from a high street shop imo.

Farmerashley · 04/02/2025 11:56

I’ve definitely fallen for hyped-up products before, so I get the frustration. A few years ago, I grabbed some “luxury” socks on a Black Friday deal, and they felt nice at first—until they started unraveling after a few washes. Since then, I’ve been more careful about trusting online recommendations. These days, I stick to brands I know or go for something fun, like put any face on socks from MyFaceSocks. My brother got me a pair with our cat’s grumpy face on them, and honestly, they’ve held up better than some pricey ones.

Mipil · 04/02/2025 13:32

An update, as this thread has been resurrected.

Despite agreeing that the socks have manufacturing faults, they are refusing to refund the cost of returning the socks to get a refund. They are a German limited company with a warehouse in the UK so EU and UK consumer laws apply. The retailer is responsible for the cost of returning faulty goods. They will only offer a discount voucher to cover return costs to buy more socks (as if…) or a discount if I keep the faulty socks. Their actual reply was along the lines of they are still useable (with dropped stitches and elastic on the outside instead of inside) and I got them at half price so I shouldn’t complain 😂 They refuse to answer why they won’t adhere to consumer laws. I have had to involve my credit card company.

I noticed there are a lot more negative reviews on Trustpilot now.

If anyone likes their designs, I have also noticed that the same designs are now available on Amazon from other retailers for £8.99 instead of £40. I doubt they could be worse quality.

The face socks the PP posted are fun but they are not very nice material. Nice as a novelty but not especially nice as socks. They do have good customer service though 😂 I bought some from them a few years ago.

I purchased from them maybe 3/4 years ago and found them to be disappointing in quality. They were extremely slow to arrive as I suspect they shipped from China. It has been suggested there are scam sites out there, but I suspect its not the case and they are simply all just selling the same dropshipped product. Its pretty clever of them hiding behind this claim. Having bought the same sets from temu for a fiver I can genuinely say there's no discernible difference. They even came in the same ziploc packets. I like the socks, they are worth a quid each any day, but I'm still mad about this company. I commented on their Facebook warning people and they just replied asking me to "prove it :)"
