Christmas cake

Following on from a post about starting Christmas snacks, when do people start their Christmas cake ?

my mum always said Christmas Day, and I did this for years. But to be honest, there’s so much other stuff I find it just gets lost and considering the cost and work involved I feel it needs to centre stage.

the last few years we’ve started cutting ours when we put the tree up, sitting looking at the tree with a nice cup of tea in a Christmas cup with a slice of Christmas cake and a wedge of Wensleydale. Just starts Christmas for me

so this year we will be cutting ours next weekend

We've nearly finished our second one. I'll make another this weekend. To be fair I gave a half of each one to an elderly relative.

Christmas night with the cheese course. Use the fancy cake knife to cut into it.

I usually remember it around January 21st, when DH wanders into the kitchen with a foil-wrapped brick and asks how long this has been sitting in the cupboard, and is it safe to eat?

Christmas eve.

We have family around and on boxing day (Christmas Day is just us) so we just start it then.

I've never bought or made Christmas cake because I don't know when it's for! At any cake appropriate time I'd always much rather have a mince pie.

About a week before, otherwise it feels it goes on forever
