What would you do on Boxing Day by yourself?

I have my DC this year for Christmas Day (alternate with their dad) but they'll be away early Boxing Day morning. DH will be there in the morning but has a football game so will be out of the house 1:30pm-6pm ish (he walks both ways and it's quite far). I just don't know what to do with myself. I've never enjoyed Boxing Day sales and I'm pregnant and just want something to look forward to but I'm not sure what? Any suggestions would be amazing, otherwise I'll be binge eating watching a show (unless that's for the best).

Go for a walk, eat even more cheese and see the Robbie Williams film.

I would prep all the buffet food for the next two days
Cold meats, bread like items, hard boiled eggs, cheese board, Christmas pudding, trifle, grapes, satsumas, pickled onions (this is all dependant on what your pregnant body can face/not face).

Make sure to have fancy pregnant drinks in, fizzy grape juice, jersey milk, decaf/herbal teas.

Probably clear rest of kitchen.

Then have a bath with new/luxury bought in advance bubbles. Get some escapism reading material whatever you feel like reading, Christmas good housekeeping magazine, feel good novel, biography of someone you admire. Bathe, body face creams be all soft and silky.

I would watch something easy like Bridget Jones, Harry Potter, Barbie.

Eat what I fancied (with pregnancy guidelines).

An get H to give me a foot massage on his return whilst still hogging remote although I might have moved on to gentle whodunnits by evening.

All whilst the pretty Christmas tree lights twinkled in the corner.

Actually I might watch the Christmas BBC lectures, if H was interested that would be the evening viewing.

I would save the walking until 27th.

I am assuming you would have slipper socks, blankets, I might bring more pillows down. I might even look at the pictures in a coffee table book.

I'll be 31 weeks pregnant this Boxing Day I so wish I had no company or plans to show up to!! If I didn't, I would enjoy no work, slobbing in bed or the sofa, with the tv on and a box of chocolate! Pure bliss and silence. Im longing for one of those days right now with all the Christmas work load and festivities and visiting family😅

Get pissed

Unfortunately she can't. She's pregnant.

Good idea though.....

Huonneyywisshful · 05/12/2024 04:08

I will have a long walk with my dog, followed by Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches on white bread with crisps. In the afternoon I will watch Miracle on 34th Street. For tea I will have pork pie salad and cheese and biscuits. In the evening I will watch the Strictly Christmas special and eat chocolate.

How can anyone not know what to do with themselves for half a day???. Honestly the mind reels.

samedifferent · 05/12/2024 12:49

Two things it is hard to do with a new baby are easily leave the house and have several hours of uninterrupted chill time.
So pick whichever of those you will miss most and do that.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/12/2024 12:59

Agree with others, put your feet up. Bath, candles, prepare a fruit and chocolate platter just for you to enjoy while watching something that just you love, for me it would be the 90s Pride and Prejudice TV series. Maybe have some pamper stuff to hand, peel off mask, moisturising foot socks, damp flannel to wipe hands so I don’t actually need to get up to wash my hands. Make sure DH dose any jobs that need doing before he goes out so your not tempted to start doing house work. . I’d also tell DH to sort a take away for dinner so your not tempted have no reason to move from your spot.

You're allowed to be a bit nuts and foggy when you're pregnant

Nourishinghandcream · 05/12/2024 13:09

I am on my own all Christmas and looking forward to it.🥳

Boxing day will start with breakfast of B&S (leftovers from my lone Christmas lunch), long walk with the Ddogs and then snuggle down watching Christmas TV (with a few festive DVD's if there is nothing decent on) while tucking into the Quality Street and liquor chocolates.
Supper of some hot party bites and cheese & biscuits.🎄

HappydaysArehere · 05/12/2024 13:27

If you are pregnant then savour the peace and quiet. Relax or go for a walk and then watch the tv with a drink and treats.

Iliketulips · 05/12/2024 15:27

I'm normally ready for 'me' time by then - I'd use it for going for a talk, reading a book or engaging with a new present, possibly watching tv or catching up with a family member/friend.

Alternatively, would you want to go to the football with DH and one of you drive?

iwishihadaname · 05/12/2024 15:33

Crafts and eat

GeraldineGrang3r · 05/12/2024 15:39

If I was on my own I'd get myself some easy to make food / picky bits, grab some mulled wine (or fake mulled wine in your case) and put on some TV 😊

GeraldineGrang3r · 05/12/2024 15:40

Ooh I'd probably try and get out for a walk as well and maybe do a cosy yoga video.

justlikebuses · 05/12/2024 16:00

Boxing Day for our house has always been a normal, non school day. I usually take the Christmas tree down, tidy up and make the house "new" for new year.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 05/12/2024 16:50

My ex used to work on Boxing Day l actually preferred it to Christmas day! Nice walk, feet up then watched tv!

ReaderIGhostedHim · 05/12/2024 18:14

Are you worried about feeling a bit lonely OP? Lots of salons are open boxing day (although lots will be booked up now) - what about nails/ a gel pedi in the morning and then home for lovely snacks, a face mask and movie?

canyouletthedogoutplease · 05/12/2024 18:33

I'd be greatly looking forward to a few hours in an empty house, I'd wave him off and lock the door and then crack open the cheese and biscuits and watch a couple of films and hog the sofa.

BangingOn · 05/12/2024 21:11

I’d be doing nothing but in an intentional way- buy some specific food and drink to enjoy, choose a really good film/series/audiobook/actual book in advance so I don’t waste the day channel surfing.

MadKittenWoman · 05/12/2024 21:28

Stay in pyjamas, eat and drink what you want whenever you want, binge watch whatever you feel like. Sorted. Enjoy.

LochNessy · 05/12/2024 21:38

I would have a bath, into new pjs, and then I would probably watch Bridget jones or Notting Hill etc on the sofa with a box of chocolates or a cheese board and a can of Diet Coke 😂 It sounds blissful!

LostMySocks · 05/12/2024 21:48

Sleep!

Austrianmilk · 05/12/2024 21:53

This year as we are with extended family on Christmas day we are all doing our own thing for boxing day. Hubby will be going on the football, DS age 19 will no doubt be messing with new Xbox games etc and I'll be taking the horse to the beach to blast away the cobwebs then taking Ddog for a good long walk. I get super peopled out so this is my ideal boxing day. We will all spend the evening together with older step kids as we've a meal out booked so no cooking or washing up!

ExquisiteDecorations · 05/12/2024 21:54

I’m the sort of person who finds it hard to sit down and just relax, I’m always on the go so it would be a real treat to just stay in, watch TV all afternoon and eat leftovers by myself. But if you do that more regularly and it wouldn’t be much of a treata treat then driving to the beach if possible for a walk, or going to a country park or similar would be my alternative. Or cinema if it’s open.
