Game to play at Christmas with presents

We have played a game most years sort of like present bingo - you write 25 numbers between 1-50 on a piece of paper and have a pile of presents (not expensive in value!) and someone calls the numbers then each time you get a number you take a present from the middle and when the pile runs out you then pinch a present from anyone in the game. Obviously more than one person will have the same number and the presents do run out so it's lots of fun and the kids love it for the presents - even though they really are small and random!

For sad reasons I'd like to do something similar this year but not the same game and wondered if anyone has a game they play where you win a present or something that appeals to adults and children and will make them laugh.

We play it with dice and the presents are "tacky tat".

6 to get a gift, 6 to unwrap

Then 6 to steal 4 to swap 2 to give away

I love this idea! Following with interest. Sorry OP! 🙈

We all think it's the best part of Christmas everyone brings a couple of items each. Even the kids.

The charity shop benefits from our purchases and the competition to bring the worst item Wink

Hi OP,
Sorry to hear there is a sad reason you need to mix up your tradition.
We have a similar one in our family. There is a stack of stocking filler type presents- usually enough for approx 1 per person.
We have x2 packs of playing cards and we distribute one pack between the players. The dealer takes the other pack (they do not take part in claiming gifts) and then turns the cards over one at a time. Whoever has the same card in their hand as the dealer gets to pick a present- these are unwrapped and we can see what they are and who takes each gift.
They then hide the gift behind their back and once the presents are distributed and their are none left you can 'steal' a gift from another family member when the dealer turns over your card, providing you remember who has what!
It's fun and all ages can play.
Wishing you a great Christmas Xmas Smile

Steal a present from Santa, who sits beside a pile of presents, and is blindfolded. In turn, each person creeps up and tries to grab a present, and Santa points in the direction of any sound he or she hears. (No swinging the finger in an arc allowed - individual directions only.) If anyone is pointed at, they don't get the present. Everyone has a go at being Santa.

If you need to make it fairer, anybody who has won a present already has to carry a noisy object while they creep, such as a sleigh bell.

A tricky "twenty questions" game, in which an object in the room is made into somebody's present. One person (the "guesser") leaves the room, and everyone else decides which object in the room will become their present. The guesser is brought back in, and has to ask yes/no questions to narrow it down to a certain part of the room, such as "it is on the wall opposite the window?". The twist is that after a certain number of questions, the guesser is blindfolded, and has to do it from memory. This could be after five questions for an adult, or eight for a child. They are allowed to feel about when they're down to individual objects (nothing too breakable).

Thank you for all your ideas on this thread! I've been away for a few days and didn't get a chance to post my thanks. I really am very grateful. Pressure on me as the host to come up with a new game is mounting (only in my own head) so it's been stressing me out!

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas too
