Christmas decorations

Do you buy new decorations every few years, or do you add to your collection over time?

We reuse our decorations each year, but we buy one “special” bauble every year.

I prefer a traditional Christmas theme, personally.

I use mine every year and then add to it
I love glass 50/60s baubles but I also have lots of new ones (Hallmarks,Asda, nemesis now etc) , so I put the glass ones in baskets on my fireplace surround

What a wonderful idea, I would love to do this but DGC is a nightmare and I wouldn't trust her with glass baubles. All my non-breakable go on the tree in the lounge as we have had trees fall down and also we have cats and of course DGC. One day I will be able to put my breakables on the tree again, some are very old and cherished and I would be upset if they got broken

Edited to hopefully make some sense!

We’ve built up our tree dec collection over 17+ years - we use all our tree decs every year and add to them every year. The dcs also pick a few each.

I’m very proud of our collection and I could probably tell you where every decoration is from, especially the ones from Christmas markets and other special places.

We never do a colour theme. It’s a free for all, a very full to the brim tree (probably close to 300 decs🫣🫢) I love the traditional & nostalgic style.

I have a huge collection and I seem to add to it every year. I do two trees. One is more tasteful and colour co-ordinated- usually white and gold and silver but sometimes I switch that up and use red and gold and silver. The other tree is memories tree. Decorations I bought the first year I moved in with now DH in London in 1988 and decorations we got living overseas or going on holiday. I tended to stick with traditional red, green and gold for all of those so it’s still a bit colour co-ordinated.

I also have a selection of some American Shiny-Brite ones and some rainbow coloured ones from M&S and have done a more colourful tree a few times but i think that needs some lovely old fashioned coloured lights and I don’t have any as yet.

I also put a lot of Christmas stuff around the house. Every year I say I’ll keep it simple and every year I don’t!
