Jellyfish lamp help

My daughter has asked for the smyths toys jellyfish lamp but it felt really light/small and unsubstantial in the box when I looked at it. Does anyone have one of them that knows if it is good or does anyone recommend a different one they’ve used - around the £20 mark.

I can’t recommend a substitute I’m afraid but would you consider just getting it for her? I’m one of the Mr Frosty generation where I asked for it year after year but my parents always said it was a flimsy waste of money 😂 I know you’re trying to find a decent quality substitute but sometimes they just want the one that they’ve asked for ☺️

You have to add distilled water so it will be heavier eventually.

I’m not the type to refuse it entirely- but she just went through the catalogue and said “oh yes a jellyfish lamp” so she’s not set on that specific one. But I suppose I was just wanting to know if people had used that one or found a better one.

It is a running joke amoung us siblings in our 40s. And the caburys mini vending machine....

I looked at this for my son with autism, good to know it might not be that sturdy as I did wonder.

I didn’t get DS the big Paw Patrol tower he asked for a couple of years in a row. It was a big, expensive lump of plastic. I got him a small one instead, which he didn’t play with 🤦🏼‍♀️😭 Regret this as he’s mentioned a few times over the years since. He’s too big now. Wish I’d bought the big one!!

Buy the lamp she likes.

I don’t think she’d know if it was the one from smyths as she’s only seen it in a catalogue and not on display or boxed. But am concerned the reviews are quite bad on smyths . Equally don’t want to buy it and it not work over Christmas at all.

We asked our dc if they’d accept a lava lamp instead of the jellyfish one because the jellyfish one has reviews saying it doesn’t work well, that option was accepted!

I'm not sure what the smyths one looks like, but we picked this up in B&M last week for £12. You just add water and a little drop of fairy liquid. Changes colour. My 5 year old is delighted with it.

I've just had a look and it seems to be the same one.

Our DS wants this ad well, so I am watching for advice.

Don’t be discouraged by the quality. We purchased one of these when my children were very small (older teens now) and to us it was just a crappy little thing BUT, they still talk about it 😄. In their hazy memories of it they’d had real pet jellyfish, it’s remembered as some kind of mythical magical wonder toy!

My daughter got one at Menkind. No idea how much it was but she is very pleased with it - that actually reminded me we need to change the water!

My son also wants the smyths jellyfish lamp, but it’s out of stock where I am 🤞 it’ll be back in stock soon.

Urban Outfitters had one in for £20 I think, I saw it in store & it looked good

I’m looking for a jellyfish lamp too, but I keep reading bad reviews, which puts me off.

This is the one we had and it was absolutely fine.

I'm not sure where it's from as it was a gift, but this is what the box looked like.

Thanks everyone, I’ll have a look at the B and M one. If it seems to be the same, may as well get it for that bit cheaper!
