If your teenagers don't believe

Does Father Christmas bring a gift for your dc regardless of age or just the believers? If he doesn't do you make up for it by getting the non-believers more to even things out?

Also, how do you manage this when your dc aren't with you on Christmas morning so will miss out on stockings and a Father Christmas gift under the tree? My two eldest will be with their dad this Christmas Eve and Christmas morning so won't be hanging stockings 😔

Obviously I know that most teenagers don't believe.
I'm a firm believer though🎄

I'd be a bit concerned about teenagers that did believe...

Father Christmas continued to bring presents long after his existence was discounted.

Could they hang up stocking before they go and open them when they get back?

Jellycats4life · 24/11/2024 20:36

As soon as my kids worked out Santa wasn’t real, nothing much changed. Their gifts still appeared under the tree and they still got a stocking, but they knew it wasn’t Santa. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Most kids are able to work out that the Santa myth is fairly implausible at a pretty young age, in my experience (although, admittedly my kids are ND so tend to analyse things differently).

ChequerboardCharlie · 24/11/2024 20:36

Santa is real!!!

stickings are left for everyone who is here on Christmas Eve and staying over, and anyone else staying over the holidays if they are unlikely to have a stocking elsewhere. You can hang it for them in a video call, or take a photo x

theeyeofdoe · 24/11/2024 20:37

He still comes here…

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 24/11/2024 20:39

It’s just cruel to allow teenagers to believe. But my DD11 still gets a stocking and in this house stockings are from Santa. She knows he isn’t real but her little brother still does so it’s for his benefit. When he knows, I’ll stop the Santa nonsense altogether. I find it odd that people carry it on with older kids, it’s a bit gaslighty 🤣

DelurkingAJ · 24/11/2024 20:39

Everyone (including all adults) gets stockings here. It’s how my family always did it and DH’s too so we never even considered doing it differently. But Father Christmas only ever brings stockings. Everything else is from the giver.

Stopsnowing · 24/11/2024 20:42

The rule here is Father Christmas comes to those who don’t admit they no longer believe.

Decapitatedsausage · 24/11/2024 20:43

We all get some of our presents from Santa here, and my husband is a firm believer at 57 🎅

noFC · 24/11/2024 20:45

My mum is 85 and a firm believer and she is staying with us again this Christmas and will have a stocking.

If you don't believe you don't receive 🤫

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 24/11/2024 20:55

I don’t think I could look a grown adult in the eye and go along with the notion that they ‘firmly believe’ in Santa when you both know they don’t.

DelilahBucket · 24/11/2024 20:59

Nothing really changed here with DS. He still has his advent calendar filled overnight by the "fairies" on the 30th November, his stocking filled, his present sack still goes out, Bailey's and a mince pie is still left out before bed, he still comes and sits on the bottom of our bed to open his stocking on Christmas morning before we all go downstairs. It's all traditions we've been doing for 14 years and he didn't want to change anything. Christmas is still special to him and us.

worriedgal · 24/11/2024 21:18

We have the same traditions as always as ours are adults/late teens but definitely no pretence that it's real Confused
It's just comforting to do the same as always for everyone like stockings and bubbly on Christmas morning 🥳

Same here. It's just fun and a bit of silly magic that reminds us of childhood and good deeds and a bit of magic.
I also leave one hidden in my mum's house on Christmas Eve (she's 78...)

JaninaDuszejko · 24/11/2024 21:27

My teenagers still get stockings. As a child growing up I got one until I was married. I probably will stop once they have a job. It's such a nice tradition, I loved getting a stocking (and DH and I now have gifts we exchange in bed first thing).

That's adorable!! How lovely of you to do that for your mum.

Apsndbd · 24/11/2024 21:30

Father Christmas brings a stocking and presents for my teen and my younger ones; we want to keep to the magic for them and teen is happy to go along with it in front of them as they get the gifts they want

Tulipvase · 24/11/2024 21:30

Nothing has changed here except I don’t care quite as much as to whether they wake when I leave their stocking. I don’t really make my husband get up at 3am to leave the stockings, no not me.

Ive never told my children that FC doesn’t exist. Obviously they don’t believe but we still continue the traditions.

I had a stocking from my parents until they died. I think I will do the same for mine. Assuming they are coming for Christmas that is.

Phase2 · 24/11/2024 21:31

Thank you @Ilovechristmasfalalalalalala she was widowed very young and I try to do nice stuff as she doesn't have a partner anymore. Plus who doesn't want to find a bag of gifts on Christmas morning to take back to bed 😍

Anotherfrozenpizzafortea · 24/11/2024 21:41

My DC only ever got a stocking from Santa, everything else was from us or friends/family.

I work with kids who sometimes don't get anything at Christmas, I find it obscene that so many kids get so much tat from Santa who rewards good kids.

My DC are adults, they have requested stockings still!! And Santa gets Baileys and cadburys these days...

noFC · 24/11/2024 20:45

How did Christmases work in your house when you were a child if your mum was a firm believer in Santa?

MarvelJesus · 24/11/2024 23:53

Hey, I’m 53 and I still have a stocking supplied by my mum, though I now receive it earlier on Christmas Eve and have permission to open the top present that night. DH gets one too, and I always give them to my family along with their other gifts. We are all Father Christmas now, which is way better than putting it all on the big guy. Who is, of course, completely real.

Needanewname42 · 25/11/2024 00:49

Santa is real, he is 100% the magic of Christmas.
Santa is what makes all his Elves sort Christmas for kids both directly and indirectly through charity collections etc. If he wasn't real so much Christmas magic would disappear. Saint Nicolas's sprit definitely lives on

But back to the point the kids in my house get Stockings and something from Santa - I don't think it will stop.

Digisquidgy · 25/11/2024 06:14

If you don’t believe, you get pants here. Santa still brings stockings.
