Nostalgic Christmas Lights

Looking for some recommendations for some nostalgic coloured fairy lights.

I really want some lights with pink in and a softer glow than the normal LED lights provide.

My DH thinks I’m mad and that coloured fairy lights are coloured fairy lights but the ones I remember from my childhood are nothing like the ones you get today!

@ZiggyZigAh how big is your tree? I'm looking at similar but not sure if 150 will be enough for a 6ft tree

We got some one year, and it was like having an ambulance parked in our living room!

That made me laugh a lot. So true !

We had those little Cinderella carriages when I was a child and to me they are the absolute essence of Christmas. It would be lovely if someone made reproductions.

We get a real one - normally between 6 and 7ft, we are getting it at the weekend so I will report back!

These are the Noma 80 Canterbury bells lights. The blue isn't quite right, but the pink, orange-red, green and yellow are fab. The blue, whilst a dark blue, is much less intense than thei usual piercing LED blue.

They are not too bright, but give that amazing warm glow I associate with the '90's Christmas my childhood.

Interestingly, have a completely mixed set of reviews on Amazon, split between "not bright enough, really muted colours" and "brilliant traditional colours, not too bright"!

Lovely glow!

LEDs and filament bulbs. Same tree same day.

I should add they are the same shades as well - Norma Pickwick.

Noma do the old fashioned fairy lights - sets of 40 and 80 - Pickwick lights and lanterns. These are spot on colour-wise to the old fashioned lights I grew up with. We purchased some and then added some glitter to the edges of the Pickwick lights to emulate the really old fashioned ones my grandmother had. Worked really well. They've recently updated these lights to LED versions so I'm looking forward to investing in same for Xmas 2025.

Have also purchased multi-coloured lights from lights4fun (mentioned earlier) and while they do have the same colours (red, green, yellow, pink, and blue) they just aren't the same as the old fashioned Christmas lights of my childhood. The colours are slightly off. That said we do pull them out and use them as they are LED.

I am obsessed with the old fashioned 80s warm, quality street coloured Christmas lights. For years I have been trying to find a modern version, using LED bulbs, none of them are ever right, they always have the cold blue. This year for the first time a new type of warm LED is on the market, it is sold on Etsy, eBay, and Christmas shops. I’m going to order some and am hopefully that this is finally it! They are a close replica to the American ‘tru-tone’ vintage style lights that you can only get in the USA. Anyway, if you’re like me, you get it. I think the makers of lights have finally listened!
