My kids want these for Christmas, and Amazon have some in the Black Friday sales, but I don't know what are the best to get. Any recommendations?

Do you mean extra/replacement joycons?

Or adaptors to make them one piece?

It depends really, the best are generally the official nintendo joy cons with perhaps a controller holder so it can be used like a more traditional controller.

If the games they tend to enjoy playing don't require joycons then I'd go for wireless controllers- most are much of the same to be honest! I'd go for one they'll like the look of if it's a gift.
