Present ideas for "bored" 7 year old girl

DD6 (nearly 7) has started complaining that she has nothing to do when we're at home and that she's bored. I think part of the problem is that the house is still chock full of her old toys (role play, dolls etc) which she still plays with occasionally with her younger sibling but not much that's specific to her age group.

I thought Christmas would be a good opportunity to buy her a few things that she can enjoy playing with herself but I'm not sure what to go for... will definitely get some arty/crafty things but what else?

Thanks in advance for any inspiration!

At this age my DD enjoyed doing the following things:

Bracelet making
Tye dye kits
Lego
Mosaic art crystal
Washable animals that you colour with pens (like mini felt ornaments)

Needanewname42 · 21/11/2024 13:33

Console of some description.
More grown up art stuff
Musical instruments
Lego
Marble run like Gravitrax

Outdoor stuff, roller blades, bike, scooter

It's good for children to be bored & learn to amuse themselves, read, research things, be creative, imaginative etc etc. Don't rush to find instant gratification for her.

my Dad would take us swimming, play board games, let us 'help' him with the car/diy jobs ... all kind of things. But when I said I was bored he'd say ok, then you can 'do the dishes, Hoover, was the car etc etc. & suddenly I found I had things I'd rather do! 😂😂

DD7 currently enjoying:
sylvanians
aqua beads
drawing
roller skating
lego
board games

It might depend what bored means though - round it here it often means wanting a grown up to play with

Dd7 ideas for Christmas so far include:
Lego sets (Cars, or Creator sets).
Art supplies.
Switch Lite Game (Princess Peach)

Stack of books ( non fiction animal books, maps, & stories she loves animals & sports).

I think you might have a point about adult interaction, mid week I'm so busy with work and sorting the practicalities out for the kids I don't get much time to actually just play with them 🙁

Dd7s list

Mermaid tail blanket fluffy
pixi toy
Princess funko pops x 2 we collect as a family.
Disney Descendants Dolls - would like them all as she’s obsessed right now but getting:
Bridget doll - Santa is getting
Red doll from grandparents
Penguin plush
Satin PJs
Gabbys stickers and makeup sticker colour art sets
Speak and spell - I wanted one back in the 80s
Designafriends doll and chill out chair
Squishmellow
Red from Disney Descendants hoodie
Ugg boot type slippers
Nail set - nail case and lots of polish, stickers, files, labels for her polish, dryer, nail brush, arm rest, practice tools and sets. I’ve got all 3 DDs (12, 10 & 7) them and adjusted them for age and taste.

I was contemplating a keyboard with headphones also.

Shes not fussed with Lego, we have an abundance from the older ones but she very rarely looks at it. She likes crafts but again has a lot so have older DDs. She has asked for a Christmas house of similar, the cardboard ones you can colour in. And she loves mini brands but again has so much as her birthday was all mini brands. She only plays with it when her friends come round though.

Shes also asked for an apple pen for her iPad, she loves her iPad above anything else, she’s got a lot of games including art and educational ones she loves.

I will probably get shot down for this, but this is why my dd now has an iPad not an old glitchy tablet. She calls her friends most nights after school and plays games with them. Sometimes it’s via their parents accounts sometimes directly, depending what set up each parent has. She arranges everything herself at school. Sometimes it’s one on one chats, sometimes it’s group chats. Even my older DDs will join in as most of them all know each other and have siblings that will also get involved.
