I saw the dork diaries but is that too old for her age? What are good suggestions

I’d say wait a year or two for Dork Diaries. For an 8yo, I’d go for Amelia Fang, the Daisy series by Kes Gray, Baby Aliens series or Peanut Jones.

I second this. My DD is 8.5 and has loved the Daisy series (has read all but one now!) - we also have some of the baby alien series reserved at the library.

She's also an Enid Blyton fan and has read and enjoyed the Secret Seven books and the Naughtiest Girl series.

Has also started reading some Jacqueline Wilson - Sleepovers, Double Act and the Suitcase Kid. Also the suitable-for-children Judy Blumes - Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great.

Some of the younger Jacqueline Wilson books

My DD absolutely loved Malory towers

The worst witch

What’s in dork diaries that’s no good for an 8 year old? Just bought dd one at the school bool fair 🤦🏼‍♀️

Second Jacqueline Wilson and Enid Blyton. Dick King Smith, Beverley Clearly and Anne Fine all worth looking at.

I think it is fine to be honest. It's basically about a teenager who is absolutely obsessed with her crush and goes through general teenage things - has an enemy who she has feuds with, 2 best friends etc. Lots of cartoon pictures

My daughter’s favourite book of last year (she’s just turned 9) was Darwin’s Dragons by Lindsay Galvin. She’s bought it for a couple of friends as presents since!

She read some out loud, I read some to her and it waa brilliant. In fact, my dad heard her read a couple of chapters in the middle when he was staying, and borrowed it once we finished it as he wanted to know what happened too!

Ramona Quimby aged 8 by Beverly Cleary
(plus the rest of the Ramona series)

My daughter who is 10 has loved the Tom Gates books and Diary of a Wimpy kid books more than anything else for two years. They are well illustrated to keep it easy to progress.

I've just bought my 10 year old an advent book called "santas crazy countdown" on Amazon, it's really really good ( I had a flick through) so she will love the nightly read !!! It's from an author called Phil jay who I've never heard of but there you go ! A great read all the same
