Stocking fillers

How many items per stocking do you do?

I have a teenager, 13 and a 2.5 yr old

Two different children with different needs ! But I'm fine for the contents but it's how much I always struggle with

I always think it looks on the small side then I buy more and can't stop !

Trying to do more in a budget this year so it's difficult

Thanks 🤩

I have about 5 things in my 2.5 year olds including things like chocolate coins, toothbrush, bubble bath etc but he doesn’t really know much about it yet so I don’t want to waste money on ‘stuff’! Then he has some presents from us. More for my 6 year old - about 10 in stocking. I do find girls easier though so bits and bobs.

I do a big stocking, about 20 things inside. We always had a big stocking as kids. Stocking gets opened in morning and then we don't open presents under the tree until after lunch around 4pm so what's in the stocking is played with all day. Mixture of fun stuff and practical stuff like paint sticks, sticker book, game, bath bombs, mini lego set, second hand brio train accessories etc.

Comedycook · 07/11/2024 09:34

I usually do between 25-30 items per child.

However the stockings are the main event here..I do gifts under the tree but they love the stocking stuff more.

Also some of it is literally bits I pick up in the pound shop....

I usually do around 20 too so will probably stick to that - nice to know what others do

We also open stockings early and then main presents after lunch around 4pm! Always have done that as a child as it's remained a thing ! Keeps the day exciting as they play with their stockings then pressies into the late afternoon

B&m I love for stockings ❤️

I generally find that any more than about 12 or 13 do not fit in our stocking so that's our number!

About 10 items. 2 DD’s

Last year was
chocolate coins
chocolate Santa
Tonie
Toy wand
Smiggle pencils
Smiggle erasers
Stickers
Bath bomb
Claires bracelet set
Card game for older DD, Dobble for younger DD

We have stockings that aren’t overly big not like the sack size ones some people have. And try to mostly get stuff that will be used up.

HolyMoly24 · 07/11/2024 12:31

However much I can cram inside. The stockings are always tightly packed because I am obsessed with buying little odds and ends to go in them and my daughter loves it.

I try to get a lot of flatter items like books, sticker packs, pack of stamp pens, magnetic bookmarks, little diamond art kit, pack of lip smacker lip balms etc to make the most of space. No rubbish for the sake of it though, only things she will actually use and enjoy.

Emmacb82 · 07/11/2024 12:35

Probably around 30 things but it’s things I’ve picked up throughout the year so spread out. I have to fill pairs of tights (family tradition) so they stretch quite a lot. Doing the stockings are my favourite thing and they were the best presents when I was a kid!

mumonthehill · 07/11/2024 12:39

I put lots in a stocking and ds24 and ds17 still say they are their favourite part of Christmas. I think as they age it does change and become more expensive so I have started pulling back a bit. But always do choc, pants, socks, nice smellies, new t shirt etc. i miss the days I could fill them with pens and small toys!

Same here. Stockings have always been the best bit here. Might try and cut it down a bit this year though as staying with family who don’t do stockings in quite the same way and don’t want there to be a massively obvious difference for the children

Wow, some of these answers are staggering! When the kids were young I would probably do about 8 gifts each - would nearly always consist of a book, a couple of items of chocolate or sweets then 5 little presents. Now they are teens we do a secret santa stocking and this years recipient (my dh) is having 5 gifts.

To be fair lots of things in my dc stockings are things they will need throughout the year anyway...like body sprays, nice shower gels, socks etc...i figure I'll end up building those things at some point so I may as well stick them in the stocking to bulk it out.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 07/11/2024 13:21

This is the first year that I’m not doing really nice stockings. The DC are getting older and DH doesn’t want one this year, so I am just going back to basics for the DC.

17yo DS is having

7 pack of socks
shower gel
pens for school
pritt sticks
highlighters for school
chocolates
keyring
travel sized game
hot chocolate
game for his console

Lovemusic82 · 07/11/2024 14:04

DD’s are 20 and 18 now but both say the stocking is the best bit. Dd1 is in her last year of uni so I don’t want to buy tat for her to take to uni (clutter up her room) so this year I am buying her mainly food, so far I have bought her….pop tarts, Turkish delight, Pringles, cheese straws and will add a few more bits.

Dd2 has SEN’s and autism so her stocking usually contains fidgets toys, Pokémon cards and food.

Its usually around 10-15 items.

ChristmasIsComing2024 · 07/11/2024 21:49

My 3 year old currently has 14 things and my partner currently has 13 things to go in their stockings. I really need to get them out and see how much more I can squeeze in 😂 Stockings have to be full/overflowing (my partner needs to learn this for mine still though 🙈😂)

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 07/11/2024 22:51

Around 13 things
dd12 has
Kylie Jenner lip gloss
sol de janeiro set
2 books
2 ty beanies
a Wednesday cosmetic bag
chopsticks
chocolate
lush
lip balms
2 other things I can’t remember right now 😅

ds16 so far has
a Costa Dusting set
a Coca Cola drinks flask
a book
a switch game
a Lindt chocolate teddy
Lindor salt3d caramel balls
a massive dairy milk bar
lush set

I plan on getting him
spotify voucher
roblox voucher
deliveroo voucher
and something undecided
