DS is in year 1 at Uni. I’m struggling to think of presents and stocking fillers for him. He’s no longer into nice clothes or posh Pyjamas.

Any ideas? He likes food. He’s getting a new phone as his is broke, so looking for bits and bobs to put in stocking.

How about the phone plus some cash tucked into a stocking, or even better an iou for some money to be transferred after he’s opened the stocking? I bet he’d be very happy and grateful to have some extra for expenses as they come up.

Nice food bits make good presents, what does he like? Things like honey, chutney, oil, olives are a nice gift if they like food but are on a restricted budget. Popcorn, chocolate, nice soft drinks. Basically like a tuck box for boarding school!!

If you give shower gel type things it frees their own cash for more fun stuff later.

Also a voucher for a cafe, vintage shop or the cinema near their student address is nice.

Toiletries...
Mini aftershaves
Scratchcard
Voucher for supermarket or coffee shop
Portable phone charger

Coffee shop voucher
cinema membership card?
cool retro things for his room?
Toasted sandwich maker?
nice version of a favourite book?

Selection of their favourite toiletries ( my students liked Bulldog and Byoma), Vitamin D tablets, new phone case. Has he started a new hobby through student societies? Kayaking bits worked for one of mine. New badminton stuff for the other..

Gift card for his local supermarket at uni /takeaway service like just eat etc would probably be the most useful!

condoms 😂 (seriously useful though!)
alcohol miniatures,
couple of new t-shirts or hoodies (if he won’t be fussed about them then it means he also won’t be spending his own money on clothes then it is still useful!- or primark gift card so he can stock himself up on basics including pants and socks)
Spare phone charger,
Toiletries (shower gel, deodorant, aftershave),
cards against humanity or other funny games he can play at pre-drinks with his uni friends,
new headphones,
subscription for something like Spotify/disney plus/ Netflix etc.

I would focus on things he won’t want to spend his own limited budget on, if you buy them for him it saves his money for other things.

My daughter is also at uni (Yr2) and foodie so last year I did her a food hamper instead of a stocking. Off the top of my head…

Avocado seasoning
Sun dried tomatoes
Olives
Wine
Winter spice Ribena
Posh hot chocolate
Truffle oil
Risotto rice
Ciabatta bread mix
Chilli jam
Chipotle and Honey BBQ sauce
Mug cake sachets
Biscoff Spread

TK Maxx/Homesense is brilliant for unusual foodie bits, as are B&M and Poundland!

Tesco gift card
Cookie mix in a bottle
Normal chocolate items- chocolate orange and smarties
Liner for her uni air fryer
Lego flowers for her uni room
Luxury shower gel
