Same old question I know- GHD/Cloud 9

As per the title I'm afraid. DH has requested my Christmas wish. I have 30 year old , yes 20 year old GHD Straighteners still going strong! I did try Cloud 9s about 5 years ago (because the ghds suddenly made a fu ny noise-then stopped and been fine since 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️. The C9s died within 2 years so I returned to my trusty forever lasting GHDs.

Is there something better on the market, not necessarily these two brands. I want sleek, straight non frizz locks....

I was a original babyliss steam pod user from the 90s😱. No issue with budget. Please help 😊

I had GHD’s which lasted over 10 years and when they died I bought my current Cloud 9’s around 6 years ago. They are used multiple times per week and have never faltered and I personally think they are superior to GHD’s.

I've just got the GHD chronos after a few years with cloud 9s and I'm so happy with them - they straighten my hair so much faster and leaves it shinier and smoother for longer.

I have a steam pod, I’ve had mine for 7 years and it replaced GHDs. Best straighteners I’ve had. Wouldn’t go back now.

I think you’ve answered your own question! GHDs in my experience are designed to last! I’ve had my own pair now for 10+ years and will be getting another when I say goodbye to them! You’ve said yourself your cloud 9s only lasted 2. Get some more GHDs!

So GHDs look to be the winner here, thanks for your input all.

The original ghd company was sold to cloud 9 some years ago, so what you are getting with cloud 9 is GHD essentially. The new GHD's are not as good I found and broke after 18 months.
My hairdresser also uses cloud 9

My GHDs were bought in 2024 so also 20 years old...still going strong 🤷‍♀️

My daughters have both had many different brands over the same period...none of which lasted more than a couple of years.

I reckon they've spent 10 times more than I have on various appliances over the years...which is proof in itself of the quality of GHDs.

Still can't make my mind up. Seems like a split verdict. My hair is very, very frizzy left to its own devices.

I hadn't considered the L'Oreal Steam Pod so might look into that. Thanks all.

Although still good, GHD quality is nowhere near what it was imo, i wouldn't make a decision based on the originals lasting decades. I personally like the cloud 9 wide plates- I also have frizzy hair that takes some taming! I used my friends Remington wide plate shine straighteners though and they were amazing. Probably won't last as long but they are a tonne cheaper.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 02/03/2025 12:46

What did you go for in the end @FlutteryButterfly?

My GHDs are 20 years old too. They are doing a £100 trade in at my salon and I'm tempted.

Diva all the way
