Asking the impossible - iPhone offers?

CatchingBabies · 28/10/2024 17:35

Anyone seen any good offers for the iPhone 13 or 14?

It’s the only thing DD has asked for but so expensive!

Also has anyone used any of the refurbished phone website and can recommend one? Thinking this might be a better option.

Thanks.

My old phone has just gone to DS so no help with the handset but Superdrug mobile have a fantastic offer on a SIM at the moment if you are a health & beauty card member (free to join). £10 for unlimited everything for six months, no contract or minimum term and £20 beauty card cash back.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 28/10/2024 19:45

Argos do referburbished ones.... With warranty.

Myattention · 29/10/2024 07:01

I am waiting on Black Friday to see what comes out. How much are you willing to pay?

Carphone warehouse have some reasonable contracts on the 15 at the moment. If it’s not a contract and you want a sim and to buy the handset you can look at Back market and also apple for refurbished phones.

DS needs a new phone. Current sim only deals are expensive. We are looking for high data. Calls and texts not so much. It’s all about the data and, at the moment it looks like a contract is the cheapest way to go.

i was hoping to sign up to Freemans and take advantage of their first credit account discount of 25% off but I don’t think phones are included sadly.

Myattention · 29/10/2024 07:03

Just adding in, don’t restrict yourself to the 13 or 14 as often the next phine up can be cheaper. When the 14 was out and I was looking at a phone for me, the 14 was cheaper than the 12 and 13 at the time.

HilaryThorpe · 29/10/2024 07:06

I use Backmarket and have had excellent service. We have bought an Apple Watch, ipad mini 6 and an iphone 11. They will put a brand new battery in for a reasonable extra charge.

Absolutely this. I got the 13 almost three years ago and I just wanted a newer phone as my XR was giving up the ghost. We looked at the 11 and 12 and both were more expensive than the 13.

Sky mobile do a really good deal where you can get the phone from them on a contract but £0 for the minutes so you're just paying for the phone and it's unlocked. I got a 14 pro max for £42 which was a massive deal at the time.

Tesco mobile have Clubcard deals now and then which can be great. Usually including AirPods or a watch. 36 months ago we got a 13 plus AirPods for £39.99. That's coming to an end now but DD is attached to it so hasn't asked for a new phone which is mad to me.

I'm after the new watch and Catalogues usually exclude Apple products from any discounts but I'm saving every Amazon voucher I get and hoping it adds up.

CEX are usually really good and they will have a price list of second hand phones on their website.

Another vote for Backmarket. DS bought a refurbished iPhone from them and it was absolutely immaculate. And about half the price of a new one.

Jk987 · 29/10/2024 07:30

Refurbished are great. Much cheaper and better for the planet.

coastingcoffee · 29/10/2024 07:31

Try giffgaff for refurbished ones.

Pattygonia · 29/10/2024 08:14

The Martin Lewis page on buying mobile phones is really good and links straight to good deals. We always buy refurbed and they've always been great - we always go for the top categories for condition though

noscoobydoodle · 29/10/2024 08:23

Another vote for back market for refurbished. I've had 3 phones from there (for me and DD) and never had an issue. I've bought the 'fair condition' ones and can't see anything wrong with any of them.

Try giffgaff for refurbished ones.

This was going to be my suggestion.

They have offers on Black Friday too.

My suggestion too. My refurbished iPhones from GiffGaff have been excellent. They often have decent offers too so may be worth signing up for emails to get a heads up.

I also use them for no contract sims; I'm a heavy user and find the £8 a month deal covers everything I use my phone for.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/10/2024 08:30

We use CEX and have bought a couple of phones and iPads we are always very impressed.

Sethera · 29/10/2024 08:30

Another recommendation for CEX. They are more expensive than some used dealers but they are reliable and include a warranty with items. They will also give vouchers if you have any old phones worth trading in - their website shows their buy price as well as sale price. If you have a local branch with the phone in stock, you can check it over in person before buying.

noscoobydoodle · 29/10/2024 08:31

We use Smarty for no contract sims- £9 per month for 15GB of data more than covers us, but unlimited data is £20 per month.

Sparxdislike · 29/10/2024 08:40

I have a smarty sim only contract for my DD it's £7 a month and 50GB of data. They do offers at different times. I got his I phone off e bay (because PayPal offer 3 months cover). It's been perfect but I was lucky. My friend got her sons off backmarket.

I have mine on contract but I'm going sim only when it ends. It's much cheaper.

The one thing I would say is get a good cover is the back smashed on his easily. He dropped it when we're out. They have glass backs and aren't that robust. The covers are great. I unfortunately had one on (more fashion than function 🙈). It now has a gorilla case on :)

SocksShmocks · 29/10/2024 08:43

We have used computer exchange (CEX) many times for refurbished phones. They have a long warranty. We go into store and see what they’ve got. But they also sell online.

Sparxdislike · 29/10/2024 08:46

i.smarty.co.uk/SiPnLTx

This will give you money off the sim only plan. Hope that's ok to share :)

Sparxdislike · 29/10/2024 08:47

Had a look (not done it before) you get a £20 voucher with the link (as do I) just so I have shared all the info.

Not sure of your budget but highly recommend Tesco. They have these deals.

Good offers however you can get a 15 for the same price as that 14 from carphone warehouse. I honestly think it’s a case of shopping around for the best deals when the time is right for buying.

pecanroll · 29/10/2024 10:15

We bought from Music Magpie, the phone was fine, we bought a refurbished PS4 from there also with a 12 month warranty, it broke about 10 months in and they fixed it no problem. I'd use them again.

pecanroll · 29/10/2024 10:17

And possibly wait for Black Friday. Might find some good deals with phone operators? I always get mine from Sky which seems so much cheaper than elsewhere, although don't really recommend them as a service, it's on the o2 network and doesn't seem to manage in busy environments in this country, very noticeable how much better it works when I'm abroad. I mostly work off wifi anyway though.
