I keep seeing ads for outsmarted and wondered if anyone has it and would recommend. I love a quiz and the idea of questions aimed at different ages appeals to me so that we can all join in.

It looks good but it puts me off that it is all connected via devices

That would mean making sure every participant has a device to play on. I'd have to look more into it whether questions run concurrently for each player or whether you can pass the device around. Fine if you can do teams i guess but then the questions aren't going to be tailored the same

We got it recently and have played it twice so far. It's ok but we've found it involves quite a lot of waiting between turns. If you get a question right you keep getting another question.

Youngest child in particular got bored waiting for it to be their turn again.

Number109 · 20/10/2024 09:29

Thank you, that’s really useful. I didn’t realise the questions kept coming if you get it right, a long wait would bore my 6 year old too.

We absolutely love it!

You don’t need multiple devices - different players can use the same device and still have their tailored questions.

You can also set it up so as a player gets more questions right, their time to answer each one gets shorter and they no longer get to use their assists, which speeds things along.

We got it last Christmas and it was a firm hit and is one of the very few board games that regularly comes out the cupboard. Great for multi-generation households.

We’ve also bitten the bullet and ordered extra question packs to increase variety but the fact the questions are so up to date means it’s different every time.

I promise I’m not on commission! Just genuinely impressed as we’re a sucker for a Facebook ad and this one was genuinely good.

We really enjoy it. You don't need a device each, we use a tablet propped up on the table. You can select from child, teen or adult for each contestant so the questions are targeted towards the correct age group and you can put a setting on (can't remember what it is called) so that once one person has answered a number of questions the time speeds up meaning that they will end up finishing their go. The other thing is that you can buy additional question packs so you can choose topics to suit either the whole group or the younger members making it more fun for them

Just to add we're currently having an ongoing argument with our 21 year old as to whether she has to move from the teen questions to the adult questions!!

MrsAlwaysRight · 20/10/2024 10:14

How do you change the settings re time to answer questions?

1wilma1 · 20/10/2024 10:23

We have it and it's been a big hit in our house, I'd recommend it.

I think it’s called Turbo mode, you can enable it in settings

Similar with 13 year old who decided teen questions were far too difficult and wanted child ones!

We have it and it's a favourite in our household, we don't tend to use the actual board a lot and just use the app mirrored to our tv. We've played individually and as teams and it comes out at most social gatherings.

tiredandhackedoff · 20/10/2024 21:14

Ooh we got this last Christmas off the back of a Facebook ad and it's been such a hit! Love the fact the questions are up to date and it's a great all-ages game. It's the one that's stayed the course in our house.

katand2kits · 20/10/2024 21:19

We got this recently and we love it. The problem with trivial pursuit is you start to learn the cards and the categories are always the same. With this game, you can have different categories each time, so less risk of repetitive questions. What we love the most is the different age categories, so the kids can play fairly against teens and adults.

littlemisspickles · 20/10/2024 21:39

We've had this from the outset, I was a crowd funder and still our go to game years later. I like that you can play fairly across generations, that the questions are current, if sometimes with a US bias and all the promised improvements have been delivered.

Stopcoughing · 20/10/2024 21:49

Big hit in our house. I got it on a black Friday deal from Amazon last year might be worth waiting for

The mechanic is exactly the same as Triv, right down to grey=roll again. You can all use one tablet if you are all together, or add remote players on other devices in different places.

We found it a bit too easy, as all the Qs are multiple choice and most are fairly basic general knowledge. Like any quiz game, it isn't for children though!

Switch on Turbo mode on the game selection screen.

Carrie76 · 05/01/2025 14:35

We love it, we mirror the iPad to the tv so everyone can see the questions. Just 1 device is needed

Frostyaf · 05/01/2025 14:42

I'm not sure I've really got the board part sorted - the device part is fine, and I've played with someone who wasn't in the house

You can pass one device.

We love Outsmarted in our house. Brilliant game.
