But seriously,

What Christmas baking (or consumable making) will you be doing this Christmas, and when?

Looking for ideas.

I am tempted to do some pork and apple sausage rolls, freeze them flat before baking and bag them up ready to cook from frozen over Christmas.

Also want to make some slow cooker fudge and bag up as presents, although I have said this for the past 2 years!

TENSsion · 08/10/2024 12:37

Christmas cake!

MoneyAndPercentages · 08/10/2024 12:51

Christmas Rocky Road (chocolate, malteasers, mini homemade vanilla cookie balls, marshmallows, glacé cherries topped with Christmas sprinkles/mini chocolate figures/chocolate coins/basically any chocolate christmassy thing!)

Gingerbread men and stars (I use the Biscuiteers recipe and make a day out of all the icing!)

Reindeer faces - Melted chocolate, shaped into disks on greaseproof paper, with pretzel ears, halved Lindt balls in red wrapper (bit tricky to do but worth it) and the icing eyes you can get.

Mushroom rolls - loads of mushrooms, shallots and stuffing mix in puff pastry. Vegan like that or add chopped Camembert for some veggie ones 😋

Garlic Foccasia for Boxing Day Sandwiches

I'd say we don't end up doing all of them, but realistically, we do 🤤 Top three great for gifts 🎁

MoneyAndPercentages · 08/10/2024 12:52

@Nightingale4567 now I want to make fudge too 🫠😋

TryingToBeNiceButFailing · 08/10/2024 17:17

God now I’m having a sugar crave

I have about a month before we know where we'll be for Christmas . I'm not sure about the cake as only DH eats it and with dyspraxia marzipaning and decorating are a nightmare. I'll do stollen though, even though I managed to get molten marzipan on it last time I made it, it's bloody hot.

I love Christmas baking!

Here’s a few of the things I’ve made in the last couple of years.
Milkybar cheesecakes
Festive bronuts (brownie in the shape of a donut basically 🤣)
Cookies made to look like Christmas Puddings

(will do a second post now with a few more pics- it said max 5 but only let me upload 3!)

And then…

White choc orange blondies
Gingerbread cupcakes
Shortbread Christmas tree
Christmas tree shaped brownies

I know they don’t look perfect, I find my bakes tend to look a bit ropey but always taste amazing (if I do say so myself)!

This thread inspired me to look through the archives for my festive creations! Most of these are from last year.

Nigella’s Christmas Day muffins
Mince pie flapjacks
Florentines
A white chocolate cheesecake on ginger biscuit based and a spiced cherry compote swirl
Mince pie shortbread

Xmas Cake
Sausage rolls
Snickerdoodle biscuits
Mini fruit cakes
Gingerbread men

Never made mince pies so that's on my list for this year!

Frostine · 08/10/2024 19:26

I'm feeling a bit ' bah humbug ' about Christmas this year.
I usually make our Christmas Cake & own marzipan but not going to bother this year.
Likewise my own mincemeat and about 36 mince pies , this year the family might get a dozen and the mincemeat will be shop bought !

SkeletonBatsflyatnight · 08/10/2024 20:30

Definitely a cake as dc1 followed me around the supermarket singing "Tradition" from Fiddler on the roof until I agreed to make one last year.

Dried apple slices dipped in chocolate. They remind me of my childhood and make nice gifts. I usually put them in jars.

Mushroom vol au vents and prawn ones cos it's not Christmas without them.

Ditto peppermint creams.

A Gingerbread house.

Chocolate Truffles
Oreo Coal
Brownies
Clootie Dumpling
I might try my hand a mince pies. I am not a fan but DH and his family love them.

dottyaboutstripes · 09/10/2024 12:38

Tisfortired did you use a recipe for your flapjacks or just make it up?

Hi @dottyaboutstripes I just added about 1/3 jar of mince meat to my usual flapjack recipe and reduced the sugar slightly. I wanted to use up the jar after making mince pies and they came out really well I think!

Spookypoo · 12/10/2024 18:22

LouH5 - your bakes look absolutely amazing!

Zoomo · 14/10/2024 22:55

Wow I'm feeling inspired. I'm a once in a blue moon baker myself, but I think I could get into it if my bakes turned out like some of these beauties!!

TrickyD · 17/10/2024 08:55

This sort of thing, but cling film removed before eating

Do you live in a stately home TrickyD?
Can we come round for Christmas?
That looks like a very impressive buffet.

More of a Slutty home actually.

I always say I won’t do the marzipan fruits again as they take a disproportionate amount of time to make but inevitably end up wasting two hours on them.
I think I have the same Lakeland biscuit cutter as @LouH5.

RudolphsDashing · 17/10/2024 15:36

I love christmas baking! Alas, we're dieting and won't be doing as much this year although I did make a christmas cake that I've started feeding.

My best thing I've ever made, although I say made, it was just mixing lots of ingredients together, is Jane's Patisseries christmas rocky road. The amaretto biscuits were perfect in this.

Christmas Rocky Road! - Jane's Patisserie

A delicious no-bake rocky road with Christmas twists.. amaretti biscuits, and more make a delightful Christmas rocky road!

Loving this thread.
I usually just do some gingerbread and brownies but I feel inspired to try something more exciting this year.
