Ideas for baby 8 months?

My DS will be 8 months old at Christmas. He’s our first DC and grandparents are already asking me for present ideas, I can’t even think of an idea for ourselves to buy him!

I know the sensible thing is money in his bank account or an experience but I know they’ll want to buy, and enjoy buying, something tangible.

Any ideas? I haven’t had a baby before so not sure what he’ll be into at that age.

My son will be about the same age at Xmas, with the added difficulty that he has an older brother so we already have everything really.

I’m planning on getting him some new building blocks, some wooden instruments (little drum / xylophone, anything that can be banged). My first started to crawl around that age, so maybe a toy that encourages crawling could be good?

I let family buy the expensive gifts and I buy little cheaper things at this age, as they don’t know who the gifts are from - saves me some money whilst I can get away with it 😂

Think about the whole next year - we got a bubble mower for DS2 at Christmas that was obviously useless at the time, but he had learned to walk by summer and it was great. Duplo / Playmobil 123 is nice for a variety of ages. Water toys are always a hit. Clothes, since they're at the age that they don't think that's a rubbish present!

What about a trike or balance bike?

Don't just think of him being 8 months, get things which he will grow into over the next year

Our eldest was 8 months at first Xmas, got one of those fisher price play tables with lots of buttons to bash (depends how you feel about noisy plastic toys though)

Bath toys
Books
Pop up tunnel or ball pit
Push along things
Stacking beakers and those rings that go on a stand
Things that make a noise
I was going to say garden toys but if he's a spring birthday you could save those for then. He won't be able to do a balance bike for a while, I would save that for next Christmas or even 2nd birthday.

Travel buggy if you have any trips booked

Until they grew out of them, my mum always bought the DN’s the Jojo maman Bebe snowsuits for Xmas but would buy them around now so they got the full winter of wear out of them. They’re brilliant and lasted for 3 children with hand me downs.
