Tablets/Ipads for kids

I have a 7 year old and soon to be 4 year old and I am considering getting them a tablet for their Christmas.

They have access to family Ipads and love them but I grudge the price of them!

They use them for Netflix, drawing apps and games... And so far that's it but I guess things like roblox and bigger games will come into play for the older DC soon enough.

Any recommendations?

Is this a wind up? They are far too young for screens. They are highly addictive.
Let them play with toys for heavens sake.

I asked for opinions on Ipads or tablets, not for your thoughts on screen time 😂🤔

I bought my dd the 10.9 inch iPad (2022 version). It was reasonable priced as iPads go (£349) and recently was on sale for £329 in Argos and John Lewis.
If you're buying for a 7 year old I'd say to get a case at the same time because they will drop it at some point Smile

@ABirdsEyeView would you say it was worth the money? That would literally be their Christmas budget blown on one thing.

Sorry to be jump on but I know ipads are so expensive but they really are worth it and from our experience so much better than any other tablet.

They handle Roblox and games like that no problem at all

My dd loves hers. She is older than your dc though. I bought her a keyboard case and she uses it like a laptop. My nephews are about your dc age and they use theirs loads, for games, watching Netflix and Disney.

I pads are the superior tablet , I’ve tried lots however I’m not sure a small child would notice . Normally the Amazon fire tablet gets suggested as good for kids and very reasonably priced so less of an issue if it gets broken .

I know you haven't asked for this but just in case you're open to it, perhaps have a read of 'the anxious generation'.

I'm a teacher and have seen the huge change in kids over the past decade and believe it is entirely down to screens.

Most parents I know who gave their young children a tablet regret it.

I'd get reconditioned iPads from CEX. The Amazon fire kids are so frustrating.

OnNaturesCourse · 30/09/2024 16:56

Can I ask what you find frustrating about the fire tablets? As that's a well considered option at the moment for us.
