Rough dressing down < weird I know >

DH has been asking for a new dressing gown for Xmas for 2yrs but specifically wants a “ rough” one not a soft / fluffy one.

all the ones I’ve found are soft and lush and other than whacking them on a 90 wash I’m lost …. Maybe a waffle one will rough up faster?

all suggestions welcome.

I would imagine he means not horrible slimy 'fluffy, soft' polyester, but proper cotton towelling, which should be 'rough' like a towel on the inside and could be either rough or velour-like - still cotton but a different nap to the material - on the outside. Not weird at all, I agree with him! Can you check that that's what he's after?

Royalshyness · 28/09/2024 16:18

Dh has a white rough towelling one he loves (it’s like the hotel ones)
hut he loves it 😂😂

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/09/2024 16:23

Could you find someone to 'run one up' out of some old hessian sacking and then sprinkle it liberally with wood ash?

mushypaperstraws · 28/09/2024 16:25

Guessing he means not cheap polyester but actual cotton, and then yeah, boil and enzyme wash!

Although the best ones are hotel robes that have been boiling washed 1000 times before

I know why he means. I cannot bear the horrible man made fibre ones.

My white company one might fit the bill. Just make sure not to use fabric softener.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 28/09/2024 16:30

Definitely towelling. Nice thick towelling, it'll rough up.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/09/2024 16:30

He wants a toweling dressing gown. I have mine which I requested for Xmas. My aunt was high up in the Sheraton chain at the time and I got a brand new one of theirs. I still use it everyday! Love itm step out the shower and straight into it

Rough dressing down?

Think you needs to start a BDSM thread OP 😂

BurbageBrook · 28/09/2024 16:32

He'll mean a towelling one.

Sparklefroggle · 28/09/2024 16:39

We got Egyptian cotton ones from The Towel Shop (recommended on here a few years ago). Mine is hung on the line or dried using the dehumidifier until stiff and scratchy. DH likes his finished in the tumble dryer so it’s soft and fluffy!

Edit - ‘stiff and scratchy’ Grin - I don’t think a career in towel sales beckons…

Thanks all! I don’t have a clue how the word “ towelling” has evaded me for the past 2 years! He indeed means rough like a towel - he hangs his out all year round and it’s like drying with cardboard!

Me too. I really want a rough dressing down now 🤣
Yes he'll mean a towelling one OP. I have a towelling one for getting out of the shower and a fluffy one to snuggle up on the sofa. M&S do them or the White Company if your budgets a bit bigger

pickingupapen · 28/09/2024 17:27

Any cheaper towelling dressing gown will do this. The more expensive ones are fluffier towelling. Or wool ones will do this too.

When you wash it, leave it to hang air dry on a hanger. Voila rough as sandpaper.

Soditsally · 28/09/2024 17:30

The one from IKEA is rough
My son loves it

Button28384738 · 28/09/2024 18:11

Maybe a towelling one?

Allthebabies24 · 28/09/2024 20:22

I’m sorry to have disappointed so many with the actual post content 😬

I cannot tell you how confused I was by the title and it being in the Christmas category

So, a dressing down about Christmas plans Im thinking, theres been a row, but then why wasnt it in relationships

Or is OP thinking about 'dressing down' for Christmas and just wants some rough ideas (yes I take things literally sometimes)

So I open the thread and see its about our old friend Terry Towelling!!!

And yes, for clarification all towelling needs to be stiff and scratchy as another poster said.

TheSandgroper · 29/09/2024 02:09

Or perhaps he wants an old fashioned woollen dressing gown? Weren’t they properly scratchy?
